It's Maple Syrup Time...

On our way home yesterday, we say these adorable buckets on maple trees on the grounds of a church just down the street from our home. Aren't they so cute with their little hoods to keep out the rain. This is maple syrup season. I found a link to explain making maple syrup here. Don't these pictures remind you of "Little House on the Prairie"...minus the school crossing sign in the background. If I had photo shop I could erase that bright yellow thing. If I were a true photographer, I would have positioned the sign behind the tree, but hubby was driving and we just quickly pulled over. Oh well, the maple buckets are still cute.

  1. Hey Karen,
I Love maple syrup season, but it's not too much around where I live. Great finds yesterday on your little adventure! Have a good weekend!

  4. It's too early for the sap to start flowing hereabouts but if we have a few more mild days like yesterday, I'm sure it'll start to run soon. I have several sap buckets that I picked up at a flea market a couple of years ago and I use them as planters for flowers in the summer. I made several holes in the bottom with a nail and hammer for drainage and it adds a rustic feel to the garden.

I've never seen the little rain hats over the buckets but then again, I don't think I've ever been that close.

You've got me all excited about your tutorial. Any hints? I can't wait!

  5. OMG, I love the flavor of maple anytime of the year. here in Ontario it is a huge industry, but my very favorite maple syrup is from Vermont. We were to Quebec last weekend and saw the buckets being put out. It is a sign of spring for sure.
I make a "pudding chomeur" which is a maple syrup deep dish cake and it's my families favorite any time of the year. It's my grandmother's recipe, she was Acadian.

  6. I love the pictures...DH and I want to head to a place a bit south of us that makes maple syrup. We are hoping that on the weekend we are going "south" that we'll be able to see something like this.

  7. Karen, I live in NE Indiana and we collect our maple sap in bags here. We have 8 trees tapped and with the weatherman calling for warmer temps next week, we should be boiling away. We usually make 2-3 gallons of syrup a year.
