Hi everyone!! I know there are a hundred different ways to make meatloaf and everyone has their family favorites, so I'm not sharing a recipe with you today. Mine is pretty basic too..breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. What I do want to share is a quick tip on which pan to use. My mom always made her meatloaf in the typical "loaf" pan…hence the name. Lol
However, I usually buy hamburger in larger size packages with 2-3 pounds of meat in each. One small loaf pan doesn't hold that much. Years ago, when the girls were younger, I made meatloaf and used a bundt pan for the first time. That pan holds so much more and the center hole allows the meat to cook evenly all around the ring.
That first time I cooked it in a bundt pan, the girls thought it was the funniest thing ever. That whole dinner we tried to invent a new name for meatloaf. They laughed so hard that night coming up with names, we still talk about it. What did they come up with…
Bundt-O-Burger…we still call it that to this day!!
A bundt pan fits so much more than a loaf pan.
We top ours with ketchup. What do you top your meatloaf with?
Bakes evenly all the way around.
Slices like a cake for perfect portions too.
The next time you need to make a larger meatloaf…try a bundt pan. It works great!!

ReplyDeleteThis is a good idea! I may have to try it sometime. I usually use brown gravy on my meatloaf, after it has been cooked. My husband likes ketchup. Of course, I also use beer when mixing my meatloaf. One time I decided to look in my cookbook for a meatloaf recipe (I'm not sure why, since I know how to make meatloaf…) Anyway, one of the variations they listed was adding beer. I love the different flavor that it provides.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Karen! My grandmother always made a huge meatloaf for our family without using any pan at all, not a loaf pan anyway. She would just form the mixture into a large sort of oval shaped mound on a roasting pan and cover it with slices of bacon. Then she would make a sauce by mixing 1/4 cup ketchup, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1 teaspoon dry mustard and let that sit on the counter until dinner. We would slather the sauce over our slices of meatloaf and, oh my goodness! So delicious! I still make my meatloaf this way and serve it with my grandmother's sauce! And here is something funny...it is our traditional Christmas day dinner, with homemade mashed potatoes and peas! YUM!

What a great idea! I'm a huge fan of meatloaf, especially meat loaf sandwiches - and my bundt pan has been in retirement for quite a while - it's definitely going back to work right away - making a Bundt-O-Burger. And yep, mine gets topped with ketchup too!

ReplyDeleteThis is a neat idea but I don't have time to cook when I get home so I make my loaf, doesn't matter how you make) in my crock pot with about 1/2 cup of water (some crock pots need a little more water), put a piece of foil/parchment paper on it (not tight, you are just blocking the veggies from on top of meat), lay my potatoes on and whatever veggies I want for the meal. Turn on low and when I get home, it's ready to plate.

ReplyDeleteYou are the bees knees. Great idea to use the bundt pan! I put ketchup right into my recipe, along with 1 Cup of uncooked oats and other goodies. It's a meat base, but wow is it delish.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea! I've also made mini meat loaves in muffin tins before, too. They're great because you can freeze them and pull out two "muffins" at a time for a quick dinner for one!
ReplyDeleteNo ketchup on ours, mustard however might work. Just kidding!! I use muffin pans and make several at a time to eat and freeze. Makes for great quick meals during school busy time!

ReplyDeleteThat's a brilliant idea. We no longer eat meatloaf, (no red meat for my husband). I use to put a chopped green apple in with the rest of the ingredients. It was a great addition.

ReplyDeleteI make mine in muffin tins for portion control and top with a little BBQ sauce. There is lots of leftovers and if make them in mini muffin tins they make great little appetizers.
