I saw this somewhere on the internet and saved it to my phone, so I'm not even sure where it's from, but it had me thinking. Yes, it's funny because, I too, love "lunchtime", but really what time period would I go back to?
I really think I would set my time machine and travel back to the 1930's. I know, depression era...but I just love the Waltons and the simplicity of that time.
Not to mention they made quilts like this!!
My second time machine trip would be the late 1800's...Little House on the Prairie.
Ok, I think I am completely swayed by television and once I arrived at my destinations, I would see how hard it was to live during those times and high tail it right back !! LOL
How about you? Where would your time machine be set to...what place, what time period etc?
Happy Thursday,
~Karen~
I'd travel back to the 1950's. There was a post-war prosperity boom then, and I also like mid-century furniture and clothing styles.
ReplyDeleteRegency England... hellooooo Mr Darcy. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would surprisingly set the way back machine to high school. So I could pay more attention to my now husband. He says I ignored him in high school. We actually didn't hook up until 15 years later. He tells me daily I have a lot of time to make up for!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI would travel back to the 50's as well. I guess I am a sucker for the whole stay-at-home mother and had time to spend with her family and made home-made meals everynight. Life was slower than and I would love that! I was born in 1960 so I was able to experience that as a child and I would love to experience it as an adult.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be able to go back in time to meet Jane Austin and Charlotte Bronte. I don't think I'd want to stay there, but it would be so amazing to see that time period first hand.
ReplyDeleteI do genealogy in my spare time (as well as quilting) so I would go back to "find" my ancestors who I can not place at a certain time. Speaking of which, most of my ancestors pioneered in South Dakota, so I'm curious about your "Little House" reference. Do you mean the way the tv show was or the books, because they are quite different? If you haven't read the books, I would highly encourage it--especially The Long Winter. They really suffered!
ReplyDeleteI think we are kindred time machine travelers.....
ReplyDeleteIf only it were possible !
Since I can (sort of) remember the early 1950s, I might take a visit to that time, just to hear the music and see the black and white TV shows - listen for the 'bread man' and the 'milk man' to come to the door. Our doctor made house calls, too. Most families only had one car, and it went to work with dad. A more simple way to live.
ReplyDeleteI would travel back to the mid-late 1940's, love the fashions, quilts, and simpler/slower way/time to live!
ReplyDeleteI would zip right back to the late 60s when I was in high school and get a "do over" for a whole lot of things!
ReplyDeleteI too find the 1950's enchanting... not sure if I would choose my current age or a different age... but I would love to be an adult in that time period and know what I know now. Have a blessed Thursday! Kathi
ReplyDeleteI think I would also go back to the time of the Waltons, even though my mom lived through that time period and I know how bleak it was. I think people cared more for each other then. I always envisioned a Waltons holiday with all the kids coming home with their own little ones. Alas, my 7 kids and their babies (some not babies anymore) are scattered all over the country and none of them can come home.
ReplyDeleteI definitely would choose Jane Austen's time.....of course, I'd want to be a gentlemen's daughter, and not be the servant to one! lol
ReplyDeleteI'd keep mine set for right now. Two things about those other time periods that nix it for me: no antibiotics, and even worse, no epidurals when having babies!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI have an older, wiser friend tell me that when she raised her brood of children it was simpler. The lines were clear. She took care of the children and the house, her husband took care of the farm. She looked at all we try to juggle and was thankful she was born when she was.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish for a simpler time and lines were clearer.
I know, I know....I don't need a lecture.
Just what goes through my mind sometimes.
BUT, I would want to keep modern paper products....like for the bathroom. My mom didn't have throw away feminine products until a young adult. And yes, the Sears catalog in the out house.
I could give up the internet before I give up those things.
It is a tricky question reading the above responses. I would like the 50s when SAHM's were a given and roles were clear, but yes the technology and personal hygiene things are a must-lol!
ReplyDeleteHard to choose a time period...maybe the late 50's-early 60's... Yes, simpler times, I so long for them...
ReplyDeleteI think my fave of these quilts is the Pink Pinwheels! So pretty!
I'd set it to the weekend...LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to go back to the 70s - it was a happy time in my life. I would take some of today's fabrics with me, as I didn't care for all the polyester of the 70s.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd like to go back to the time of Jesus, but I'd also like to see the roaring 20's! I loved the fashion for that time period and the automobiles! But I'd only want to stay for a day! I couldn't give up my blow dryer, straightener or shower! :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I will have to think about that one. Basically I would like to turn back time rather than a time machine I would like to start life again (in my teens) knowing all that I know now. Wouldn't we all!
ReplyDeleteIf I went back to any other time, my doctor and dentist would be going with me!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to go back in time, I like today, Hot water, Central Air, just little selfish things like that.
ReplyDeleteI like today better then ever. If I had to go back it would be to 2003 when I got my first Great Dane. I miss them all so much and would like to start over with them all.
ReplyDeleteI honestly have to say that I have no interest in going back. There were times in my life that were wonderful, but I am all about forward progression.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the 1940's--from all of those patriotic movies I watched when I was a kid. But then I looked through the quilts in your post below and I thought of all the worry and loss of those years, and know that I wasn't thinking as an adult, I was romanticizing. I might like the turn of the century, when people took time to visit with each other and entertainment was simpler, but I'd hate to live without antibiotics, so I guess I would just stay here. Perhaps I'd want not a "time" but a "place" machine--I'd love to experience life in a different part of the world for awhile. New York City, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI'd travel back to those Southern Belle days where I could sit on the porch and have some tea in a beautiful dress. :)
ReplyDeleteAm I going to visit or to stay? Just to visit I want to go West in the mid late 1800s. I would love to see the country before it was touched by modern man.
ReplyDeleteThe summers in the 1960s and early 70s, not because of the events of the time but bz those were the summers that I spent staying with my Aunt JoAnn and her family and were the happiest times of my childhood. Things were so simple then to. I remember playing hide-and-go-seek across the three lawns of my aunts who lived next to each other and just enjoying my cousins who treated me so well. Happy times for me. I have never felt so loved and accepted by so many as I did at that time! My cousins would line me up on dates later in the 70s and I had a blast!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why others love lunchtime very much but that's absolutely a very cute quilt! Haha. If you need sewing machine reviews, please come and visit us at www.ebrothersewingmachine.com
