Am I the only one who can eat sweetened condensed milk out of the can. It's so darn stinkin' good! Not evaporated milk in the can...sweetened condensed milk.
You know that thick yummy stuff you make desserts with...like macaroons. OMG...macaroons, that's another story! Yum
I'm just asking, because my friend Tina and her daughter Julia probably thought I was nuts when I said to them..."don't you just love eating it out of the can?"
I'll let Tina give you her thoughts in the comments if she reads it this week. lol !!!
Any body else love sweetened condensed milk?
Happy Thursday,
~Karen~
yeah - i confess - i love the stuff!!
ReplyDeletexox.
YES, and I could share some yummy recipes that only use half the can, and then there is that left over can....
ReplyDelete:-}pokey
Sure do! I buy it in tubes to take camping, it doesn't last very long!
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear Pokey's 1/2 can recipes too!
I love it too. YUMMY !!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes. In iced coffee : )
ReplyDeleteMe too... squeezed onto bananas, squeezed straight into my mouth and especially in coffee (it is a staple coffee ingredient here in Spain and is called a Cafe BonBon - the milk lies on the bottom - delicious!).
ReplyDeleteCan you tell I like it in tubes?
And have you tried the Dulce de Leche one - it is sweet toffee/caramelly... words cannot describe it :)
My mother ALLWAYS eat it from the can!! I don't! She loves it.
ReplyDeleteOh it is wonderful stuff. As a child, my treat on washday was to sit on the doorstep washing Mum peg washing on the line whilst I ate a condensed milk sandwich!
ReplyDeleteDo you have Banoffee Pie in the USA? - it is THE most fabulous dessert made with condensed milk.
sweet blessings, dear friend!
I honestly would never have admitted that I eat this sooo sweet and soooo fat goodness. I am liberated because you have!! YES! I love my own can!
ReplyDeleteOk, how weird is this? I had no idea that you could eat the stuff without cooking it. I'm kind of afraid to. What if I really like it? This could be bad.
ReplyDeleteI confess, I too have eaten it from the can! I love it when some is left over from a recipe! Then I indulge , but once or twice I've had a can all to myself- over the course of several days! Most of the recipes I use it in are not cooked so that's proof it's okay to eat out of the can! Also there is this candy called Milkfuls- I think- or something close to that where the center is sweetened condense milk and the outer layer is caramel! Yummm!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBanoffee Pie! Remember when I worked in a hotel in torquey the dessert was banoffee pie. One day the waiter said that there was a whole pie left...well all the staff just throw themselves onto the pie. Swisch, the pie was gone in one second. The waiter stood there with his mouth open and stotters: But I just made a joke. Well, the poor guests got some crackers for dessert that evening.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it came in a "tube"?? I saw on a blog this week (but I can't find it back) you take a whole can and cook it in boiling water a long time and it turns to carmel!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm ready for some SUGAR!!
I love sweetened condensed milk - I love it that my dad loves 7 layer bar cookies and I can use it to make them for him and lick the can at the end. I had no idea it came in tubes, was good in coffee and I've never heard of Banoffee pie- please share a pie recipe! and I can't wait to try it in coffee.
ReplyDeleteHaha! No, we don't think you're nuts. I don't have many recipes that require sweetened condensed milk, but the next time I need to buy it, I promise to taste it straight out of the can! Things we eat straight out of the package: chocolate frosting, almond paste, Nutella.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking I have not.. I love sugar, but I am afraid if I start, then it will be all over for me. My mom did tell me that she loves it. She takes the lid off, and then puts it in a pot of water (can and all) and simmers it down. It will turn into like a caramel, and she loves LOVES it like that. Now that was a tempting idea. I passed, again.. too much for my bootie, it has enough issues.
ReplyDeletei don't eat it straight from the can, it is just tooooo sweet for me, but I have made caramel out of it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, ewe....because I cannot stomach anything so sweet! However, I'm sure my husband would do it! =)
ReplyDeletelove it, my kids fight over who gets to lick out the can!
ReplyDeleteI don't have Facebook, but I tweeted your giveaway too!

Thanks for the chances to win!
yup! in japan we eat it with strawberries
ReplyDeletethey are sold in tubes next to strawberries in the produce section
I have never cooked with it, let alone eat it from the can. Now its on my grocery list and I'll have to google recipes!! Thanks a LOT!! ~lol~
ReplyDeleteHere we all come out of the closet! Absolutely!
ReplyDeleteOu have found me out....my finger can not resist scraping the can.....the only problem is, I look like I scrap the can and you dont!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Holly, I'm afraid to try it now for fear that I will ike it too much. Plus, I'm kind of weird about anything so sticky...I don't even like to get it on my hands!!
ReplyDeleteIn South Africa we sometimes cook it in the can to make caramel. I prefer to eat fudge made from sweetened condense milk.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I'm not ashamed anymore! I like putting some in a mug, throwing on some chocolate chips and microwaving till it's just a little melty then I throw on some coconut and stir - Oh it's so good.
ReplyDeleteOf course! I take a rubber spatula and scrape every little drop!
ReplyDeleteBeen eating it straight from the can with a spoon since my grandmother showed me how over 40 years ago! Now when I do it with what is left in the can after making a recipe my son says "gross!". I just said "Yep!" and kept right on eating it - that way he won't want a bite too and it can be ALLLLL MINE!!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is YUCK! Never even been tempted.
ReplyDeleteoooh oooh I do, I do. I like it on bread too, like nutella!
ReplyDeleteoh and I use it when I make rice pudding instead of sugar
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes, Yes!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school - many years ago - my girl friend and I had a sleep-over and while we played Canasta (all night long) we dipped into a brand new opened can of sweetened condensed milk. We finished it off. I have to say it was a while before we had a "yen" for that again but I still love it!!
And I'll have to try the caramel thing. That would be interesting. How is it used? Or just a candy?
Never heard of it in tubes.
And Pokey, yes, would love to see your "half can" recipes!! Then I wouldn't feel guilty opening a can!!
Jackie
I used to eat condensed milk sandwiches when I was a kid. That or butter and sugar sandwiches. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI do! There is something very comforting about it for me...no one in my life knows this about me. I also eat salt right from the shaker once in awhile...there, a big burden of secrets lifted...sigh.
ReplyDeleteI added some food coloring to it the other day for my kids to use as finger paint and my youngest (19 m) couldn't keep her hands out of her mouth!! I'll admit that I may have had a little too =) Good stuff!!
ReplyDeleteOMG way too sweet and a million calories to with it. Gross!!!
ReplyDeleteYES! whenever I make fudge I always eat the scrapings from the can ;)
ReplyDeleteI've used it in my baking
ReplyDeleteBUT I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OF TAKING IT STRAIGHT.
WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING.
I'm off the the grocery store ! !
Extra Sweet Hugs,
Gerry
Heck yeah I do! Love that stuff! I put a coupla spoons full in my homemade iced coffee, then indulge in licking the (somewhat full) spoon!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it. It just doesn't look good right out of the can to me. I would try it but I have enough bad things that I like to eat already. My favorite receipt that uses it is 7 layer cookies. Yum Yum!
ReplyDeleteIt truly is amazing stuff. I've heard about turning it into caramel in the can, using the slow cooker. Is this where I confess my secret marshmallow addiction??
ReplyDeleteI loved it when I was a kid UNTIL I seriously cut my finger on the sharp edge of the can. Blood dripping into the can sort of ruined the whole experience for me.
ReplyDeleteI needed a can of evaporated milk for a recipe and oops I bought condensed.Yeah..........I ate the whole thing in 2 days. It's a comfort things.
ReplyDeleteBoy, would I love to find it in these tubes everyone is talking about! And, I must confess, that I do lick my fingers when making the fudge, but have never eaten it by a spoonful. This could be very dangerous for me! lol
ReplyDeleteOkay girls - you have me drooling here. I'm not normally a sweet tooth but sweetened condensed milk gets me every time (but I don't like white chocolate - go figure)
ReplyDeleteIt's best if you open the can then store it in the fridge or the freezer and it goes thicker, then just eat it by the spoonful.
Here in Australia you can not only get it in tubes but Nestle also sell a pre-caramelised version (called Top'n'Fill) which is very yummy too so you don't even need to cook it for hours to get that yummy caramel.
If you like an easy fudge, just mix it with chocolate then melt together. Pour into a tin you've lined with plastic wrap, then refrigerate till it's set. Cut into squares & lift out. You can put in any flavours you like. Yummy!
I love it! I put in in the frig. and let it get thick, then spoon it out. YUM!
ReplyDeleteMy mom said the used to put the can it water and boil it and then eat it. (the can is completely covered in water)
Wish it was low cal. :)
I love sweetened condensed milk. In recipes, in coffee or straight out of the can. Wonderful stuff!
ReplyDeleteHow funny. I cook with it but never thought to eat it by itself. Recently a friend of mine turned it into a carmel pie by placing into a pan of water and boiling for about 4 hours. Opens the can and pours it into a graham cracker crust. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteover bananas! and also a main ingredient in arroz con leche (rice with milk, sorta like pudding, but with rice)
ReplyDeleteHmmm never heard of Banoffee Pie, had to google it. Sounds somewhat similar to banana cream pie, but has the addition of toffee (which, apparently, is what the milk turns into after boiling). Might have to try it!
ReplyDeleteI've used S.C milk in key lime pie. Never could figure out what Winnie the Pooh saw in it until I put it in my iced coffee - 1 can per brew, YUM!
Also - I've seen it in plastic squeeze bottles in the Latino section of my supermarket - why there of all places, I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteI honestly have never thought about it before now. I never really drink milk by itself so I never think about other milk products except ice cream. ha ha
ReplyDeleteso many good things to make with the sweetened milk but did you know???? it "times of olde" it was boiled in the can and made into a dessert? Kinda like a pudding I think
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! I put it in my coffee way before they had flavored creamers!!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Vicki am I am a addict of sweeten condensed milk.......lol I have to hide the can (wait does that count)lol. It will make any bad day great I promise.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Oh no you are not the only one that can eat sweeten condensed milk out of the can... that stuff is awesome!!! I am 55 and I still eat a few teaspoons before I put it in a recipe!!!!
ReplyDeleteWowee, did you ever touch a nerve! Yes, I love it, too!
ReplyDeletei have asked a few people, how they felt about condensed milk and finishing a tin, most say they feel sick, duh!! i can wolf it down and feel sick? NEVER!

Paola
Absolutely! I love it. Glad to see so many have come out of the closet.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Have you ever tried heating it to just before it boils, adding a cup of chocolate chips, stir til the chips are melted, throw in some nuts and pour out. Wonderful fudge.
