Great Broccoli Salad Recipe...

I wanted to share this recipe with you before the 4th of July, but craziness set in with visitors and the weekend of cookouts. This is still a great recipe for any time of the year though.

Broccoli Salad
  • 2-3 bunches of broccoli, raw and cut into bite size pieces (not a lot of the stem)
  • 1/2 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled (I used the cooked, bagged kind this time pictured below and it worked mess!)
  • 1 small red onion, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds (just the shells. A friend put the shells in hers when she tried to make this, why I don't know, I said SEEDS Lol!!)
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons white vinegar
  • In a large bowl, mix chopped raw broccoli, cooked bacon, chopped onion, raisins and sunflower seeds and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sugar and white vinegar to make the dressing. Pour over the broccoli mixture and mix well.
  • Refrigerate for a few hours so flavors mix. I made mine in the morning and served around dinner time. Still very tasty days later too...if it lasts that long. This one is always popular!
  • One tip: You may want to double the dressing recipe (mayo, sugar, vinegar) just in case your heads of broccoli are large. Dress the salad with as much as you'd like according to your own taste though.

I'm hoping to share more recipes along the way. Hope you enjoy this one. Let me know if you make it and if you liked it!!
Take care,

  1. This looks great Karen! I'm definitely going to have to give it a try!

    1. Love the broccoli salad recipe. I use Renée coleslaw and dill and mix the two together. The sweet offsets the salty, try it.

  2. Delicious, Karen! I make a similar salad with just broccoli, packaged real bacon bits, packaged finely shredded cheese, one bunch scallions chopped...mix with one cup mayo, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup vinegar. Mix, chill and serve. Quick and easy and so delicious on a hot night, and the whole family loves it!

I like the raisins and sunflower seeds idea though, so I might throw those in next time I make mine.

  3. I think I had this same salad--or one very close to it--at last month's Bunko. It was delish! Thanks for sharing.

  4. I love this recipe. It is a great way to get a good veggie into our menu plan.
One tip if you don't care for the taste of completely raw broccoli, you can try blanching it for a just a couple of minutes. It will make the salad a lovely bright green colour too.

  5. This is a great salad, very popular at potlucks. I use poppy seed dressing, though and it is very good on this salad.
