Of course when something goes wrong with your blogging world and you can't control it, it's even more frustrating. Here's what I've just noticed and I think it's been going on for over a month...
- I have it set up for ALL comments that are posted to my blog to be sent to my email address. Yesterday I noticed that a few comments, not all, are only being posted to my blog, but not sent to my email inbox. I'm not sure how long this is going on and wonder if any of you have noticed it too? I went to my comment section on my blog and was deleting some spam and was reading the regular comments and noticed several that I hadn't read in my email box. Not sure what's happening there. Any one have a clue???
- Feedburner, which is the email subscription box that most of us have on our Blogger blogs, usually sends an email out to all subscribers with my latest posts. I subscribe to my own blog to keep track of it. I just noticed that all my posts since early February have not been sent to my inbox, but to my "promotional" box, which is where all advertising type emails go. So if you subscribe to my blog though email, you may have not received a post in your inbox in a while. Maybe check other boxes in your email. I checked my Feedburner account and my sewmanyways@gmail.com is the correct return address, so I'm not sure what's happening. When I read my email on my iPhone, ALL email comes in as one stream and is not separated, but when I read it on my home computer it's divided into different types like Primary, Social and promotional, so I didn't notice my blog posts weren't coming in correctly.
- I've also notice that Feedburner has had some updating issues. They've had problems with the stats and updating accounts. I checked this weekend and my email subscription numbers went from over 7000 people to 35. I didn't panic at first, because usually it works itself out if I wait and it did. All numbers are back, but maybe that is they same issue with Feedburner sending our posts out incorrectly.
- Spam commenting is getting worse and worse. There is supposed to be a spam blocker from Blogger and it does work on some comments, but those sneaking little spammers always have a way around it. They create a real blogger account and then they can post under some stupid name like "Clark Kent" and "papa young". I get a lot from these two. They leave actual links in the comment, which leaves your blog with a very bad rating with Google. Google DOES NOT like spam links in the comment section. The worst one I had was just this morning. They blatantly left a comment stating..."Free Porn" with the link. I was infuriated to say the least!! My blood was boiling actually. It was a new comment this morning, but was left on an older post. I deleted immediately. I always hesitated doing this, but I am now going to put on "comment moderation" to avoid all the hundreds of spam that I get every week. I thought just deleting them in the comment section as they came in was enough, but I don't do it every day and I'm afraid some things that aren't being deleted right away, will sneak by.
- One plus to comment moderation is I can now allow "anyone" to comment on my blog, not just registered users, because now I can let the comments I want in, to be posted. I won't turn it on right away, so these comments about your blogging issues can come in automatically.
Ok, I think that's all the things that have bugged me lately with blogging. Have you had any problems? Maybe everyone can leave there problems in the comment section and we can all help each other, because help from Blogger is just not there. We're on our own with this!!
One more thing that made me sooooo mad this morning and it was my own fault. I made a big Mexican Lasagna last night for dinner. We ate late and I couldn't put the dish in the refrigerator right away, because it was too hot. Yes, you guessed it....I LEFT IT OUT OVER NIGHT!!! AHHH, such a waste of food, I want to cry. Oh well, lesson learned. If you fall asleep on the couch, check the kitchen before you go to bed.
Since this post is all wordy, I'll leave you with a picture of Hallie...she doesn't seem to be bothered by this blogging thing or the fact that I left tonight's dinner out on the counter over night.
Thanks for listening today!!
~Karen~
Karen I only have no-replys sent to my spam box, yet they show up on my blog comments. They are not sent to my email box if they are a no-reply because they are automatically assumed to be spam.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone. I've had this problem since October and after extensive research, I've discovered there is nothing I can do about it. Part of the enjoyment of blogging is the communication with others through comments and emails. Here's the post I prepared on the topic to inform my regular readers.

Hi Nancy,
DeleteI just checked my inbox compared to these comments and yours is one that was not sent to my email! So crazy. I will check your post. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Karen
Hi, Karen, I ran across your blog looking for a solution to my blog problem of not getting certain comments in my email. I've noticed that all of them, so far, are from people with Yahoo addresses. The person above has a Yahoo address as well. I don't know how to fix this yet, but I'm looking!
DeleteHave a lovely day!
Another thing is because of the spammers, I only allow registered users, but I do have my email on my blog and a contact form so that anyone can comment or ask me something of they aren't registered or just don't want their comment posted for everyone to read. It works well. I prefer blog who don't moderate just because I can read other comments about a topic and not have to continue to return to read the comments later, which I rarely do because I forget. Those people who respond to comments on their blog and not by email to me personally I rarely read because I have no idea they will even respond on their blog post and I don't go back again. I like email responses because I will read and receive it that way.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am a scientist and I think that the casserole would probably be just fine to eat. A few hours at room temperature is not the end of the world. When I worry about things like this, I think back to the days of no refrigeration. Actually, in the late 1900's I visited my roommates home - on a farm in Ireland. They DID NOT HAVE A REFRIGERATOR. Her mom made a roast of some kind for dinner. She stored the leftovers IN THE KITCHEN CABINET for sandwiches the next day. My roommate had been raised that way. No one died or got sick!
I'm having the same thing happen with my comments too and it's beyond aggravating. I wrote to Google but they didn't bother to answer. I try very hard to reply to anyone who is kind enough to leave me a comment and now it's just hit and miss. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteI hate the spam too and still get it, but I did set moderation on for older messages, since that is where they seem to sneak in. I have allergies to aged products and molds, so if I don't put my food away, I won't touch it, not worth taking the chance.

I had to change my email account associated with Blogger from Yahoo to my local Charter email address. After the Yahoo mess last year, they put in new security measures, and that meant that some Yahoo email address were not considered "verifiable" and therefore wouldn't come through in my emails. Of course, I learned that my emails weren't going through too. A simple change of email server fixed it for me.
ReplyDeleteThat's the same issue I had, Teresa! As soon as I switched my Blogger email from Yahoo to Gmail I didn't have any more issues.
DeleteI've noticed that I get a lot of mail undeliverable emails after commenting on blogs I've followed and commented on for years. I have a yahoo email and they show as posted to the blog. I'm wondering if this is the issue.
ReplyDeleteHi...even though your comment did post here, yours was one that wasn't sent to my email inbox. That's 2 so far out of these 9 comments.
DeleteThanks for commenting,
Karen
Looks like previous commenters have it covered with what's going on, and yes, I too have had these problems. Even if you moderate comments, you'll still have the problem of folks whose emails haven't been landing in your inbox. You're still going to find legitimate comments on your dashboard, and even when you publish them, you won't be notified. For me, this has been the most aggravating because you have to respond using the link to their sight. Then, you won't have their comment to remind them what they said to you. I've been unsuccessful copying and pasting too because it won't copy just the part you want. Totally annoying and I wish there was a way to fix it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been having these same problems. Hope they are worked out soon! I'm enjoying spending time at your fun blog this morning.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, We often leave a pot of soup or casserole standing for a little, to cool down before we refrigerate or freeze it. We also accidentally left one out all night. Now we set a timer for half an hour or an hour, and when it goes off we are reminded to put the food away.

Computers! Internet! Email Providers, yes it's a nightmare sometimes. I currently have gmail and what I have been told and observed, is that Gmail tries to put your emails in categories and they may not be what you want. There processes are not user friendly for me. When I had COX email or Q (Quest), it was much simpler and everyone came to me and I made all the decisions. I have been very tempted to go back to them but having moved recently and changed over all my email addresses to gmail, I just hate to have to do that again! Good luck with your issues. Talk to someone knowledgeable with gmail.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed the problem with your #1. - not all comments are coming through to my email inbox - for the past few months. I don't know why this is happening either. Also #4 - the spam comments - I've noticed a big change since January with very few of these horrid spam comments coming through, almost none for a few weeks, then all of a sudden they come through to an old post from 2 years ago. I tried to close comments on that post but a couple more squeezed through. They are so annoying and I always delete them to Spam as soon as I see them on my blog and to Junk on my email. It doesn't really help as they always find a way in. Thanks for listing these issues and I hope yours will clear up soon. Have a great week.
ReplyDeletePamela
I always have my comments on moderator. I check them when I can and hit publish and it's done. No spam can get through and my readers don't have to jump through hoops to leave a comment.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying this again. I set up a gmail account and linked it to GoStars! Hopefully this will take care of the problem.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, I have had some problems with Blogger too. The spam and included links got to be infuriating so I also resorted to comment moderation. Haven't had any problems since.

I read on another blog this week (sorry, I don't have the link at my fingertips) that people with yahoo mail accounts cannot leave blog comments on Blogspot blogs. It is something about a server problem between yahoo and google. I do know that my email is a yahoo one, and there are a ton of blogs that when I leave a comment, I get an automatic email that my comment cannot be sent because of a server failure. But, the comment is usually on the blog thread. I do have a bloodspot blog (a very unused one!) and I know that I am not a no-reply blogger. Now that I have written this, let me do some digging and see if I can find that blog post that addressed the yahoo/blogspot thing.
ReplyDeleteIt was making me crazy so I dug through EVERY BLOG I FOLLOW on bloglovin' and finally found the article I read a few days ago.........
ReplyDeletehttps://riddleandwhimsy.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/blog-commenting-conundrums/
If you copy and paste, you should be able to see her article, plus a few others that she linked that reference specifically problems between yahoo emails and blogspot bloggers.
And I just got an undelivered message to all the comments I just posted to you--so maybe that's the problem (my yahoo email account)
ReplyDeleteOh this is truly frustrating for all of us--I do not get comments from all my followers and/or just commenters in my email --it is driving me crazee--don't want anyone to think that I don't care enough to reply--geeze. Plus I do not get all the blogs I follow when they post every time...I get these "truncated" things. I am a yahoo email gal--also. Will read article--but so far my research hasn't given me any joy!! Hugs, Julierose P.S. even though my moderator is turned on...aaargh
ReplyDeleteI have had many of the same issues as you, but I have found that since I turned on moderation with no captcha thingy the spam has stopped - weird or what! I moderate all comments so I read them that way and don't miss any that don't make it to my e-mail, but it is annoying if you cannot reply to them isn't it! xx
ReplyDeleteKaren, I've had similar issues. Here's a blog post that I wrote last week discussing it. --> http://reddeliciouslife.blogspot.com/2015/03/making-switch.html
ReplyDeleteNot getting comments via email happens because you have a gmail address and the commenter has a yahoo email address. Read my post and the link from Joanna from Riddle and Whimsy since she explains it much better than me.
I've had this happen too.
ReplyDeleteYes, the yahoo thing started last year some time. It's something to do with yahoo not wanting e-mails sent from a third party site - or some such nonsense! It also happens when someone tries to comment from an aol email account. It got so annoying that I changed my e-mail for my comments away from my yahoo account.
ReplyDeleteI know of some of my regular commenters use yahoo or aol accounts so I try to read the comments on my blog (as well as in my e-mail) so that I don't miss theirs.
It's not just a blogger issue, the problem with spam is common on Wordpress also. I am sure most blogging type scripts or anything that allows comments runs into the issues with spammers commenting with there crap. I don't use moderation, but in Wordpress, their is an option to allow those who've been approved before to be auto approved for commenting and then they will always be accepted for comments.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with google mail and ads going to a special area has been around for about 6 months or so to a year now. I don't use browser email, I download my email to my pc so I don't encounter those problems your having. I did remember reading about it on a yahoo group I'm in for web developers. I remember reading something about being able to filter out the ones you want to go to your inbox and those you want to stay in that area tho, or perhaps your able to just turn it off. You might check your google settings for that.
Best Wishes..
I've had lots of issues with my site over the past few years like the video ads that pop up all over the place and "talk" over my tutorials, the same comment issues are having, and other stuff, but I just don't have time to do anything about any of it while I'm still in school. It's so frustrating that blogger is no help and I am looking forward to having the time to clean up my blog in another year or so. Readers still visit even with no new content to speak of lately, but I know it's not the quality I would like it to be.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to pop in and see what you're up to, Karen!

I've had the issue from the commenter side… sometimes I get a message from mailer delivery subsystem or some such nonsense. Basically, (and I'm sure other commenters have said this), it's something to do with the google/gmail and their spam filters. I have a yahoo e-mail and it seems like this is a problem when the blogger has a gmail address. I've tried to change my e-mail on blogger, actually opened a gmail account and thought I linked that to the blogger, but I continue to have the issue and get the messages on my yahoo account.
ReplyDeleteKaren first of all your casserole would have been fine....our mothers left food out all the time, even in summer with a tea towel covering it! I frequently leave things out to cool overnight, then refrigerate. I've never had an issue with this. Naturally if it has mayo in it that's a different story. :) Second, I've seen several complaining about not getting comments in their e-mail. I don't think it's happening to me but I might have missed a few. At 68 my memory is iffy enough that I can reread a book and get halfway through before I recognize it as one I've read before. :) I also don't have much of an issue with spammers. I don't do comment moderation but I only allow registered users. I figure I miss some legitimate comments doing this but I also miss most spammers. I agree with Sally above - I think yahoo and google must be fighting. blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteYou might want to check out Wordpress. It isn't perfect, but it is the best I have found. Sorry you are having so much trouble.
ReplyDeleteNow wondering if it's a Yahoo issue. So far no one has told me my comments aren't coming through to email, but I have a Gmail account. I've been having the same issue with comments on my blog for a couple months and it's BEYOND frustrating. I sometimes forget to check and miss comments from my favorite online people. I swear if it isn't one thing, it's twelve.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering to myself this week, why I am not getting more comments on my blog. I was beginning to feel "unpopular". Guess it is better than having lots of friends and not getting their comments. I am such a inexperienced blogger, I do not even truly understand your post. Hope you find a resolution soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen for blogging about this. I just discovered this problem (#1) a few weeks ago when I stopped hearing from one of my regulars. Turns out she'd been posting on my blog all along, I wasn't getting her emails. Looks like a lot of comments here. I will read through and hope to find a solution!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea on the comments/email situation.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I just want to say that I have had the food left out overnight happen many times, until I started leaving them on the stove top (turned off!) and the hood light on. Sort of the kitchen version of having a light plugged into the power strip with the iron.
I've not been getting all the comments to my email since late last year. I tend to forget to check, and sometimes miss replying.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some weird things also. Sometimes when I go to my dashboard I find comments waiting to be moderated, but I didn't get a notice in Yahoo or Gmail. I'm wondering if the comments are made through the Bloglovin or some other reader site. sometimes these things work themselves out. Sometimes you just have to diligently check for comments. That's blogger for you.
ReplyDeleteKaren I didn't think the blogger issues were happening with me and now they are! I did look at my blog and see that I had comments, but no emails and they weren't in my spam either. Gosh now I wonder how long this has been going on? Will they ever fix it??? If the comment came from some other blogger I know, I not only replied on my blog to them in case they returned to read it, but I made a comment on their blog to let them be aware of this too. At least we can all check our comment on our blogs from now on, even if we cannot reply back via email.
ReplyDeleteSpammers are such pills. Why don't they get their own lives rather than leeching onto ours? Grump grump. Like some of the other commenters, I do prefer Wordpress. There's a slight learning curve but it's worth it. Also, I'm THRILLED you are accepting anonymous comments again.
ReplyDeleteBecause of these issues and other clunkiness, i am considering switching to wordpress. If I understand correctly, google no longer supports blogger.
ReplyDeleteI am having the same first issue with not getting emails. After some research the pattern I noticed was all of the commenters with the "missing" emails had yahoo email addresses. I posted a question on the Google user forum and received this response from another frustrated user: "We are just discovering how extensive the damage, from DKIM / DMARC / SPF spoof filtering, may be. It's been mentioned a few times, in various discussions - but no serious complaint has been registered.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time to start." Seems like a known problem.
I wasn't aware of all this, but I'm going to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI had this problem and read it was a Yahoo and AOL SPAM issue, so I changed my AOL email to a Gmail and thought it was fixed. Not! I've started counting my comments and comparing them to what comes to my email and found that several just don't make it to me. I've searched the net for a fix (which is how I found you) but there doesn't seem to be one. Annoying! Too bad about the lasagna being left out. Been there, done that.
ReplyDelete
