Thrifty Thursday...Packing a Necklace for Traveling

This is an easy Thrifty Thursday. Not really a project, but a great idea. I saw this some time ago in a magazine ( not sure which one, sorry) and thought I would share it with you too.

This is idea is great for packing jewelry when you're traveling.

All you need is a straw. If you have straws at home, great! If you don't, than you can be really thrifty and save the straw from your next soft drink purchase and rinse it out!! Lol

Traveling or packing necklaces is tricky. They tangle, knot up and jumble with other jewelry. You could wrap the necklace in tissue or store in little boxes, but the chain still might knot up with itself. The dreaded knotted necklace.

To get the necklace ready for packing, all you do is open the necklace and thread the chain through the opening in the straw.

When the chain comes through the other end of the straw, clasp the necklace closed.

Pack this anywhere and it will never knot up.

Easy...

 and thrifty!!

You could also cut the straw and use this for bracelets.

Happy Thrifty Thursday,
~Karen~

  9. What a great idea, Karen. This would also work for the earphones to my ipod. They would have to be doubled or split in thirds, but they could be fed through in the same way. They also end up in such a tangle in my bag. Love your blog!

  16. Interesting solution to a universal problem. A friend and I had the same problem a number of years ago, so we put our heads together and invented (and patented) a tangle-free jewelry case, now being manufactured and sold by Storus Corporation. You can view it at this address:

  17. Great idea! I usually just toss all my jewellery into a little makeup bag & then regret it as soon as I reach my destination - huge tangled mess! I'm definitely going to try your straw idea next time I travel - thanks!
