Tool Time Tuesday...Bread Ties Quilt Row Markers

Happy Tuesday!! Do you know that the word "Tuesday" has a whole new meaning in our house. If I pick something up, look at it funny, stare off into space, keep it, shove it my purse, or if I ask...do you know what this is? all my family says is...Tuesday. (To tell you the truth, they sometimes say "why do you save all that crap", but then when they see the final product they say...Tool Time!)

Here is the perfect example of "why the heck did you save those"?

Do you know what these are?

Bread Bag clips...

and lots of them...

These are another versions of this TTT. These are quilt row markers too!!

and you can color code them if you want.

Use a permanent marker to write the row and number. Because it's plastic, make sure the ink dries before you use them...it may not dry and smudge. You can also use a pencil or there is a different idea towards the end.
space

All you need to do is use a straight pin and catch a little of the fabric inside the clip hole. Isn't this block adorable...it was made and sent to me by a special friend. It's a top secret project which I will reveal soon!

Here's a close up.

or you can use a little safety pin to attach it to the fabric. This pin comes with the bend in it. It does resemble many of the straight pins I run over in my machine, but this I didn't do!!

You can use a larger safety pin to store them on.

Here's the other idea if the pen or marker keeps smudging. Just type the row numbers on sticky labels, then cut them up and stick them to the bread clip.

or you can use price tag stickers too.

So, get out there and start eating all those breads, rolls or muffins....we have rows and rows of blocks to sew together!! Make sure you check the bag before you buy it. It may have the twisty wire things and who needs those. Oh wait a minute...that may be a Tool Time in the future. Hmmm, what can we use those for?

Have a wonderful Tuesday,
~Karen~

  3. Boy oh boy--you don't know how many of those I see in a day! I run a wee restaurant and I end up with tons of those plastic suckers. Now they will take on a new purpose! Thanks sharonj. ps...I remember when we use them as counters in kindergarten--{a million years ago}wonder if they still do that?

  7. Great idea! Please, do try to find one for the twisty wire ones. In Argentina we don´t have the ones you used, but do have the other kind....and I keep saving them (don´t know for what).
Sorry to hear about the floods. I lived in CT for a few years and know a bit about flooding but never saw something like what the pictures show.

  8. Very clever. I have another use for them, I wind the tail of yarn on one when I'm knitting to keep it out of the way. Wonder what else they can be used for?

  9. Great idea Karen. I have seen the ones at JoAnn's but they are pricey. This would work so much better.

  10. GREAT idea!!! I usually write the row #'s on paper and pin them to the rows, but this would be better as I could save them and reuse them. Thanks!

  19. Please you guys, save some for me. What a GREAT idea and they will not go into the garbage again. I hate trying to put them back onto the loaf, so just twist the plastic bag and fold it back over the loaf of bread! Thanks for a great idea!!

  27. Great idea, but...only problem is how to get these away from the CATS! Bread tabs have been used as kitty "hockey pucks" on the kitchen floor since they were kittens. I probably have 148723473 of these tabs under the fridge (a.k.a. "the goal") right now! :)

  28. Good ideas as usual, Karen! My only problem with this would be that as soon as I take one of these closures off the bread bag, it vanishes and I cannot find it. Therefore I am a twistie girl!

  37. Too cool of an idea. And all this time I've been using little post-its.

    There's a GREAT reason to love Tuesdays....LOL

  38. Another great idea. I can hardly wait until Tuesdays and your creativity. Don't know if this was ever shared but some can't find cotton air filters so some are using the microfiber cloths instead.

  39. I love that idea. Now to find a store that still uses these. The bread I get uses twist ties. But I really need these. I use post its and they fall off unless you pin them and that is a hassle. These would be great.

  40. Please keep these great tips and ideas coming. Thanks loved this one and will use.
