It's amazing what a little spray paint and a few minutes of your time can do!! Here are some of the things I worked on this past weekend.
The before pictures!!
I just love the transformations…
One tip before you begin spray painting is to use a plastic glove. The paint usually ends up on the tip of your finger when spraying a lot!!
First up are Christmas stocking holders I bought in 1992. I loved them back then, but they need a little change!
I used a silver metallic. Love the difference.
It's not Christmas, but wanted to show you them on the mantel.
Here's last year's mantel. I think the silver will look great with the silver glitter letters I have on the stockings.
Next up is a clock I bought in a thrift store. I pulled it apart to paint the frame all by itself.
I loved the shape, but the clock was brown and I wanted it to be black.
I have no affiliation with Krylon, but it is one of my favorite paints to use. Sprays on nicely in one or two coats and dries fast.
Here's the after in black. Not a big difference in pictures, but in person the the black is perfect. Most clocks pull apart to spray paint, but if yours doesn't just tape off and cover the glass.
I bought this caddies when Courtney started college. They were great organizers and matched her theme color her freshman year.
Five years later, a little spray paint and it's perfect for a party.
We had 4 of these, so I painted 2 black and kept 2 green. The green matches my sewing room.
This is an old bed tray. Breakfast in bed has never happened in our house (well, maybe when the girls were little and they made me toast and pop tarts one Mother's Day, Lol), but I just loved this tray and for only $1.00 in a yard sale, I couldn't pass it up.
These trays are great for computer work if someone is sick in bed or even on the couch if you need a writing surface.
I has a lift up feature to slant the tray, but a wire is missing…need to fix that.
This is an old toy block that I couldn't pass up.
A little paint and it's another addition to my "W" collection.
These are Easter buckets I bought last week at Walmart in the clearance section.
75% off, so I only paid 24 cents!!
Spray paint to the rescue!
I did 2 thin coats with the bucket upside down.
Here's the before and after. I added a cute hang tag and you can use these buckets to organize any room in your house. Just paint them to match your decor. I didn't paint them all yet, because I'm saving them for Courtney's new apartment someday. They'll be a great and inexpensive way to keep things neat and tidy.
Here are some pictures of past posts where you can use this type of bucket for inexpensive organizing.
Remember my "Crap Baskets" on the stairs. I bought the wickers baskets years ago at Walmart. They hold all the things I collect and pick up when cleaning the house. Each person has their own basket and has to bring up all their "stuff" that's in the basket.

Now each person can have a cute little bucket to match your home.
Our medicine closet holds all types of medicines and supplies. Tylenol, Advil, bandages, stomach medications, cough drops, ointments, suntan lotion, cold meds, allergy meds etc and a basket for each person for their personal medicine bottles…Click HERE for original post. The buckets would work great here too!
Coffee Bar…holds coffee pods, tea bags, hot chocolate, etc. Click HERE for all the posts I've done on this coffee bar over the years. I turned an old desk and a shelf into this.
You can also use the bucket idea in your food pantry too. Gravy packets, Jell-o boxes, drink packets, cupcake liners, baking supplies etc…click HERE for this post.
or you can use the buckets in your workbench area to hold all different supplies…click HERE for workbench ideas.
I hope this post inspired you to look at things differently when shopping or at yard sales and thrift stores.
A little spray paint can do wonders!!
Thanks for stopping by,
~Karen~

ReplyDeleteYour post has definitely inspired me! I used spray paint last week for the first time. I changed an old Lloyd loom laundry basket from pink to white. I will now be looking at things in a different light! Thanks for all the ideas. Maggie xx
ReplyDeleteNice post...I'm inspired to paint the clock I have in my sewing room to match my decor! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring us all. My fav is the stocking holders - great job!
ReplyDeleteI love Krylon! Love the buckets
ReplyDeleteNow everyone will be rushing to WalMart for those buckets! Great ideas.
ReplyDeleteI love your spray paint ideas, Karen. Thanks to you, I was able to save my 20 year old deck chairs from the landfill by spray painting them. Now it's just a matter of a quick touch up each spring and I'll probably get another 20 years out of them!
ReplyDeleteI love changing out the color on items. I had a red vinyl wheel cover made for the back of my trailer. It is fading fast. Is there a spray paint I can use on this vinyl?
ReplyDeleteI love spray paint!!! These are all great ideas. I especially like the stocking hanger transformation.
ReplyDeleteLove all the projects. Thanks for all the inspiration.
