Different Craft Storage Idea...

I found this Picnic Pack in a thrift store for just a few dollars. Isn't it just the cutest thing?

Here's the paper that was on the top. Says it's great for pot lucks, picnics, church outings etc. I love the mom...all dressed to the nines for a picnic. I love that era!

Each little section comes out for different foods and there is a handle that snaps on to cook in one of them

Well, I won't be going on a picnic any time soon, so why not use it for sewing.

I put all my supplies for sewing my English Paper Pieced hexagons. Here's a tutorial if you ever want to start a hexagon project or a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.

One container for material...

One for freezer paper supplies...

Threads and what nots...

Hexagons that are already sewn with the freezer paper...

and hexies that are sewn together.

Now just stack them up one by one.

Lock the handle and you are ready to go...or sew!!

Just keep it by your favorite chair and your hand sewing is all in one place.

This hexagon project was seriously just thrown in one bag all mix up. This little picnic pack keeps it all organized and makes me want to sew.

Hunt your favorite thrift store, yard sale or maybe you have one in your basement not being used!!

Remember always think outside the box when looking at something,
~Karen~

  3. That is a wonderful find for that price. They are very useful. Often they called a "tiffin" and come from India. We have them at our local India Bazaar for about $20.
There is a two tier one here for $25.

  5. Great idea Karen. I've used the little snap packs that are in the organizing section of Target for the same kind of thing. The first one I found was on clearance after Christmas. I love that they stack and save space.

Great idea for sewing. I can't wait to see my hubby's eyes when I get in the truck with that in my hand.LOL. He always says I miss all the scenery because I am always sewing or crocheting.

  32. Karen, that is an OLD Stanley Home Product. It was a gift for having a big $ party. I have one in my attic!!! It was my mom's and she said never get rid of it, soooo. Reckon I should get it down, polish it up and use it, huh? I remember us using it when I was younger, when we'd go to the river camp and such. Only you would think to use it with sewing and crafts..lol Have you run onto anymore cheese rounds? I'm still looking, to no avail tho..

  33. To Karen and her crafty followers:

Look in the camping or hunting department of your local department stores or military outlets or hunting/fishing stores, I have seen something very similar in those departments.

My husband convinced me years ago to quit paying the higher price for those plastic boxes that hold floss, as we discovered they were 2-3 times the price in the craft section and you could get the EXACT same thing in the fishing tackle section for a drastically reduced price! The same is true for the wheeled containers that hold those plastic boxes... marketers of products, Karen's crafty crew is onto you!

  34. Heya, Target has those similar one but it's prettier and with flower decor on those. It's not metal but a melamine. Smaller version of yours. But I believe will work well.

  35. Very clever! We had one of those back in the 60's when I was a kid lol. The only time I remember Mom using it was when we went to family reunions. I saw one at a thrift store a few years ago so they're still around.

  40. Try the pans for baking quick breads also they stack nice in the freezer. They also fit in a quart size ziplock bag.

  44. Funny things we find, huh! This picnic stack looks like the things they used in the church I was growing up in which they held pre-poured plastic cups of "wine" before passing down the pew rows. (too many people to all come forward to the altar to take part). Those, I believe, had silver inserts with holes in them the size of the bottom of the cups, but I could be wrong. Totally looks like the same thing. They stacked about 12 high before getting iffy.

  45. I have this exact picnic pack!!! YAY!!! I have something to do with it!!!

  46. OMG I remember my Mom having one of those and packing it for a cookout. Potato salad, fried chicken, corn, one container had the paper plates and plastic forks and spoons. Thanks for the nostalgia. I was born in 1952 and was probably about 7 or 8 when we used this item. Wish I still had it and will be on the look for one now.
