Workbench Turned into Gift Wrap Center...

Hi everyone! Today, I wanted to share an idea for a gift wrap center I have in my basement. Before I start, I wanted to share a little background with this area in our home.

About 10 years ago my parents moved in with us. They moved from a large home with lots of "stuff". One area we had to carve out was a space for was my dad's workbench. Lots of tools, hardware and supplies all needed to find a home. My dad bought three workbenches that you assemble yourself and sheets of peg board…and a small workbench was born. Ten years later, my dad is almost 90 and can't use the stairs to go down there any more, so the workbench was cleared out and his things moved upstairs or out to his shed where he can get to them.

From tool storage to gift wrap center…

I know everyone doesn't have the same situation, area or workbench, but you can use one or all of the ideas in this post. Come on in and see…

Here is the style of workbench that my dad had. He doesn't remember where he bought them, but I'm sure any hardware store would have something similar.

You could also use any table, desk or cabinet that you have or from a thrift store.

It truly was his workbench and we still have the vice clamp on the end which I use a lot. Believe it or not, I used it all this week cutting pvc pipe for a project for my daughter Kelsie.

The wooden tops of these benches are just resting inside the frame, so they were easy to turn over to the other side to a new clean surface. I was thankful for that, because they were gross.

There is peg board mounted on the wall over the workbench.

Hardware stores sell 4 foot by 8 foot sheets for under $20.00 and they will cut it to any size for free. They also sell little sheets that are 2 feet by 4 feet.

All the hooks and accessories come in so many sizes and styles.

Long hooks are great to hold all the different sized gift bags.

Every day occasions…

Christmas too…

I bought this rack in a thrift store. I think it's a towel bar to hold rolled up towels.

The hooks are great for rolls of paper. I think an old wine rack would work well too.

Small peg board hooks hold up a broken tension rod.

Which holds rolls of curling ribbon.

Don't forget to hang scissors and rolls of tape.

I bought these old metal drawers years ago (I think at Christmas Tree Shop). They hold all the bows.

And the bins also holds gift basket grass and filler.

Below one of the shelves are all the long rolls of Christmas paper that I buy on clearance at the end of the season.

Also holds a rod of Christmas ribbon.

I took an old curtain rod and flatten the end to slide it through one of the holes in the legs.

Baskets hold small gift boxes...

and smaller pieces of gift paper.

An old file folder holder keeps tissue paper organized.

Here it is up on the top so you can see it.

The other 2 shelves hold all the gift boxes we use for Christmas, birthdays and other occasions throughout the year. Some stores don't give gift boxes any more, so these always come in handy.

I wrap the gifts on the work bench too. If I need more room, I just move the bows out of the way.

Ideas from this post would work great in a small closet too. Shelves below in the closet to hold boxes and tools of paper, peg board on the back wall or mounted on the inside of the door to hang supplies.

I hope some of these ideas will work for you. If you keep all the supplies together for gift wrapping, even in a small area, it will make your life so much easier. It helps to eliminate searching for things or even buying doubles of something, because you can't find it.
