Fried Nutella Wontons...

Nutella…what's not to like about Nutella! We all love it, but it's my daughter Kelsie's favorite. She is home for spring break this week and her friend Louise from school is staying with us too, so we had to make Fried Nutella Wontons.

If you're not sure what Nutella is, it's a chocolate hazelnut spread. It's similar in consistency to peanut butter, but chocolate!!

fried Nutella

These fried wontons are very easy to make…so come in for the step by step instructions.

We saw this recipe on the Food Network years ago on the Giada De Laurentiis show and have been making them ever since.

All you need is a jar of Nutella and a package of wonton wrappers. You can find the wonton wrappers in most all stores. Our local markets keep them in the fresh refrigerated vegetable section.

fried Nutella

I always use an electric skillet with vegetable oil, because you can control the temperature so much better.

Heat your oil to 375 degrees.

Take one wonton wrapper and put a dollop of Nutella a little off center.

You will also need a small bowl of water too. Dip your finger in the water and run it along all four edges of the wrapper.

See the shine on the borders. This will seal the edges, so the Nutella doesn't ooze out when frying.

fried Nutella

Fold over one of the corners to make a triangle. This is why you need the dollop off center a little

Now take a fork and crimp the edges to seal.

Make an assembly line to fry them. I keep the wrappers on the left and the frying pan in the center.

On the right side of the fryer, I keep a plate with a paper towel to place the cooked wontons to soak up the grease, tongs to remove the wontons from the oil and confectioner's sugar to coat at the end.

To make sure the oil is hot enough, place a corner of one of the wontons and see if it starts to really sizzle.

fried Nutella

Place 4-5 wontons in the oil, depending on how big your pan is. You don't want to over load the pan, because it will cool down the oil too fast.

fried Nutella

Cook until golden brown.

It only takes a minute or two on each side.

fried Nutella

Remove with tongs.

Be very CAREFUL! Oil is so HOT. Do not have kids around during this part.

fried Nutella

Place on paper towel.

fried Nutella

The sprinkle with powdered sugar right away. Don't wait til they cool or the sugar won't stick.

fried Nutella

You can eat them right away, but the Nutella is melty hot inside, so be careful.

They are so delicious…crispy, chocolatey and just plain good!  Enjoy them with a big glass of cold milk or a nice cup of tea!!

I hope you like them!!

Thanks for stopping by,
~Karen~

  6. I must ask what may knowingly be a stupid question, but can they be made ahead and stored for later consumption? If so, how long and stored in what manner?
