Tool Time Tuesday...Yard Stick Organizing Rack

Hi everyone! I have mentioned in the past that our house and the things in it are ever changing. Furniture moves in and furniture moves out. Between thrift store finds, saving furniture for our daughters when they move into their own apartments and "hand me downs" from my sister, our house is always "making room" for something.

Well, the littlest of ideas come from the need to squeeze in one more piece of furniture. My sister gave my daughter Courtney a small love seat couch for an apartment she might have in the future. Never wanting to giving up free furniture, I squeezed it into my sewing room for now. I love it ( Courtney might not get it), but things had to change in my sewing room to get it in.

One change was the wall where I had stored a big frame of all my quilt rulers. Move one thing here, move another thing there etc. It's definitely a domino effect of change.

Quick easy project that you can use for anything really, not just quilt rulers. Come on in to see!

The main parts are things I had already. I truly put this project together Monday morning before I went to work.

• 1 or 2 yard sticks
• 2 old curtain rod holders
• the hooks...shower curtain hooks, or "S" hooks or large key rings

This was a package of shower curtain rings I bought at the dollar store a long time ago, because I love the beads and the color. I knew I would find a purpose for them...other than the shower!

The curtain rod hooks I have are mounted differently for different purposes. Use or buy the ones that work best for your situation.

The 2 types are...

• the top bracket in the picture mounts with the "L" shape bracket to the wall or furniture.
• the bottom bracket in the picture, mounts with the flat part of the metal underneath something.

I used the flat bracket and mounted 2 brackets at each end of my sewing table just underneath the edge.

I actually had these brackets mounted here before with a real curtain rod that held a roll of paper, but I removed that a while ago. When I measured the distance between brackets again to find a rod, I realized in was 36 inches...hmmm, that's a yardstick!!

Voila! A yard stick rack.

The yardstick slips into the bracket hooks.

For strength, I added a second yardstick.

The back of some curtain rod brackets have those screws that help hold the rod in place.

This worked great for the yardsticks too!!

Just slide on your shower curtain hooks and add your quilt rulers.

Easy to see and get to all your rulers!!

It's a quick ruler too, when you need to measure something.

Just bend the hooks open a little and the rulers slip right on.

You can really use this to hold anything in your craft space. When you hanging things up where you can see them, it not only keeps things neat and tidy, you can also find things faster!
