Organizing Your Travel Mugs...

Sometimes it's the little things in life things that make your day easier and less stressful, especially in the morning rushing off to work or school. Most of you know that organizing is my life and making everything easy for my family is the most important thing for me.

One area in the house I organized last year was a spot in the kitchen. It was an area off to the side at the bottom of the stairs. It's a coffee bar and hot drinks too...tea, hot chocolate etc. You can click HERE for all the posts of this coffee bar. The bottom of this was an old desk and the top was a shelf left in the basement by the previous owners. They stored paint on it. I put the 2 pieces together and added a little crown molding to the top.

Here's how it looks today...we use this area several times a day, every day. We make all our hot drinks here on the way out the door to work and the rest of the day too.

Little black fabric bins that I bought at the Christmas Tree Shop for $1.00 each are great to hold all the things we need.

I made name tags cut with a decorative paper punch to label all the "stuff"...coffee, tea, decaf, sugar, hot cocoa, splenda, etc. They are held on with a key ring.

This was the drawer for all the travel mugs. It worked for a while, but it was small and we lost the caps to the mugs on the bottom and the drawer would get tuck when we jammed in all the mugs.

Come on in to see the solution.

This is where the coffee bar is, on the wall off to the side of the kitchen. The door that's just a little open off to the left is the door to the basement.

That's where the solution is!! Can you see it just peeking out?

Tah Dah... it's an over the door shoe bag.

kitchen organizing

The back of any door is always wasted space, but not anymore. I use these shoe bags everywhere.

The shoe bag holds all the mugs separately in each pouch with their lids. It also holds the kids' water bottles too.

Now everyone can find their favorites and the Star Wars cup is mine!!

This shoe bag came 4 sturdy over the door hooks, so it holds up well.

kitchen organizing

I bought the shoe bag at Walmart for $5.00. Well worth it for the ease of getting out of the house in the morning when we make our coffee "to go"!

I know we may not have the same situation or need, but the shoe bag can be used for lots of things in the kitchen and throughout your house.

You can click HERE for the other shoe bag organizing ideas I've done in the past.

Hope you have a great day,
~Karen~

  1. Wow, awesome idea, if I wasn't already using all my door space for other things I would definitely do this one.

  2. What an inspiration!! I can already see this hanging from inside my pantry door filled with granola bars, hot cocoa packets, etc, low enough for the grandkids to grab on their own. You're always full of fun ideas!! Thanks for another great one...

  6. Now THAT is clever! I use a hanging shoe bag, with horizontal pouches to store my machine embroidery stabilizer rolls...they're kept nice, without creases, and everything's at my fingertips. Plus, I get to see when I have duplicates or am running low on anything (never happens!)

  7. I have shoes bags all over the place!! Scarves in my bedroom, gloves and hats in the hall closet, craft smalls in my craft room. The only thing I don't have in shoes organizers are SHOES!!! hehehe!

  8. Love it! I use the shoe bag for organizing gloves, hats, scarves etc in the winter. However, I don't like the way the sturdy hangers on the shoe bag mark up my door a little. It's not too bad so I deal with it.
