Faux Fur Rug for Under $30...

Hi everyone! I have a fast and easy project for a faux fur area rug that is no sew and under $30!! Our oldest daughter Courtney moved into her own apartment last year and our other daughter Kelsie decided last week to move into Courtney's old room as a change of pace.

We moved some furniture around and it looked great except it needed an area rug. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but even the cheapest area rug in Walmart was over $75. She wanted a white faux fur rug and those over $100, so I thought why not buy faux fur in a fabric store!! Here's how it turned out!!

Kelsie's "new" room...

I bought the white faux fur at Joann's fabric. It is $16.99 per yard. I bought 2 yards, but had a 50% off coupon, so it was only $16.99 for the 2 yards. The best part is you can just pick it up and wash it!!

The fabric is 60 inches wide, so the rug final size in 5 feet by 6 feet!!

The cut edge of the fabric needs to be finished and I didn't want a sewn edge, so I just hot glued it!

I folded it over about a 1/2 an inch.

This only took a few minutes and I was done!

You ABSOLUTELY need a rug pad. This will prevent any slipping. Make sure it's the anti slip rubber kind. This size was only $10.

Lay the mat down...

then place the faux fur on top of that!!!

It is so soft and looks great!!

New room and rug just the way Kelsie wanted it!

Not bad for $27.00!!

  5. I love this. I'd put it in my living room - it's actually the perfect accent for my small living room and for $27 if a disaster happened and someone spilled red wine on it, it wouldn't be an expensive disaster. I'm totally doing this. Thanks Karen (actually my house is looking more and more like yours ... hope you don't mind. lol

  11. This is a great idea. My niece has been telling me that she wants an area rug for her room. I've been keeping an eye out while I'm shopping but everything is so expensive. Even the small rugs are at least $30. I'm going to go price some faux fur. And it comes in so many colors! Thanks for the idea :)
