First, you are probably wondering...what is a lightbox?
A lightbox is a place for a collection of photos. You might see it in stock photo sites where you are browsing around the site looking at photos and they ask if you want the image saved in "your lightbox". It's just a place to save images and browse through them faster later.
Here is a screen shot of one of my recent post for a Coconut Cake recipe. If you want to see a close up of a image in a post, you would just click on that image.
However, the image can be displayed 2 ways with blogger with the options you have on your dashboard.
Let me show you how easy it is to do...
First...
- go to your DASHBOARD
- click SETTING
- then click POST AND COMMENTS
- 3rd option down is SHOWCASE IMAGES IN LIGHTBOX
- click YES or NO
- then click SAVE SETTINGS in upper right corner
- you may have to refresh your page for the setting to reset.
Here is what your blog will look like with the Lightbox turned on.
When someone clicks on an image in your post, a nice black overlay of all the images will appear.
There will be one photo front and center and the other images associated with that post will all be in a thumbnail options below.
See the little thumbnail photos on the bottom of this image below? Your readers can scroll through every image for that particular post all at once verses clicking on each one individually.
When you scroll over the thumbnail, that image will enlarge in the center.
Here is what your image will look like if you say NO to the light box.
It's larger and pops up in the same screen that they are on, but they can't see the other photos from that post. They will have to go back to the post and click on each one individually.
Just wondering what everyone prefers with this options...
- Lightbox on so you can scroll through thumbnail images or the other option
- Lightbox off and just one image shows on the page to view
Happy Blogging,
~Karen~
I definitely prefer the light box on option. It not only looks better but is more functional,as well. Plus less clicking and more time efficient, just what I need being a new blogger, mother and uni student.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, thanks for sharing :)
I am always learning from you. I will be checking out light box.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the light box. I like to be able to scroll through the photos after I read the post!
ReplyDeleteAnother great blog tip!I'm going to try it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information. Suddenly my photos were only available with the light box and I wondered why. I guess blogger did an update and that was the default.
One reason I prefer the larger image is especially on quilt sites you can see some better detail of an individual project, the light box just frames the piece with a dark background. Too bad you couldn't jump back and forth on other bloggers sites depending on what you wanted to view.
I just added the light box option--thank you so much for sharing the info--I love it and wondered how people added it. Another terrific tip ;---))) Hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI personally don't like the lightbox feature. I love when images posted on blogs open in a window big and lifelike. ;) My fave~ so I do it on my blog too!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you shared this since many don't know about this option to change it~
As usual Karen you've told me something I didn't know. I knew something had changed but had no clue why. Now, do you know how/why on some blogs there is an option to enlarge a photo by clicking on in it when viewing. I'd like to add that feature it would be helpful in my quilting posts I think.
ReplyDeleteYeah, so I didn't even know light box existed, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen for the tip, always wondered how they did that on their blogs. Going to add it to mine now.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for the lightbox option and have it turned off on my blog.
ReplyDeleteCool! Thanks! I wondered how they did that!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I was wondering why there were two ways of seeing the pics. I actually prefer it without the lightbox, though, cuz sometimes (not always) you can double click on the picture and get it to zoom in. I really like that when I'm trying to see a detail in the pic. The extra zoom in, + or - feature, really helps! I'm wondering why that isn't always available when not in the lightbox mode? Any guesses? :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. I've not yet played with this feature, but I'll give it a try.

Oh I love this ...thank you very much. I will give it a try:)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try the lightbox option! :)
ReplyDeleteMy light box is on. ;o)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I like to just scroll thru the pictures again without scrolling thru the blog.
That was really interesting. I'm going to try the light box!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip, thanks!
