Thoughts on Thursday...

I love music. I listen to it in the car all the time and it's on at work all day long. Oddly though, I rarely play music when I'm at home and I don't have one song on my iPhone...not one. I'm going to change that though.

My style of music is like my blog...all over the place. My blog has sewing, crafting, cooking, blogging, recycling, decorating etc.

My taste in music is just as varied. I love music from all eras.

From Frank...

To Flo Rida...

Favorites are...Frank Sinatra singing Summer Wind, Bobby Darin singing Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea, but I also love Flo Rida singing Good Feeling and Wild Ones.

My "going out" dancing days were in the 80's, so love all those club songs too!!

Music is a powerful tool...it can bring up every emotion we have. We laugh to it, sing to it and even cry to it.

What's your favorite style of music or are you all over the place like me? Do you have one absolute favorite song and what is it?

Happy Thoughts,
~Karen~

  1. Absolutely all over the place! Sinatra and Darin, definitely! I love classic rock and classical music too, I still love 80's & what I remember of the 70's, and I pull up opera on Pandora whenever I cook, and regional music for whatever region's food we're eating! Jazz or blues for when I'm sharing a drink on the patio with my dh and/or reading a great book. Just about everything but country (oddly, farm girl here could never stand it). Whenever I'm home alone, I usually have music on. Forget putting songs on your iPhone--pull up Pandora instead. Make stations for every mood! Truly takes music enjoyment to a new level!

  3. I too am all over the place when it comes to my tastes in music. I grew up listening to everything. I can honestly say I love it all with the exception of "Gansta" Rap. I just have no appeal towards it. Music is very influential in how my days are going to be. A song can trigger any type of mood within me. Music from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s can bring me back to my childhood in an instant. Music from the 80s can make me remember why I hated puberty. LOL Classical, Religious Choirs (such as Monk's chanting)and New Age music can sooth me where Heavy metal and Rock can feed a battle within. XP And Christmas music can just make me feel GREAT any time of the year. I LOVE Pandora.com!!!! Great variety.

  4. All over the place too, but since we got satellite radio, we are truly Blues Hounds, and BB King's Bluesville is on anytime we're in the car or my desktop puter is on. (When hubby's at work and I'm sewing, rock & roll classics and easy listening have been known to be in overdrive.) I don't think it's possible to have one favourite song...maybe one in every genre? Right now, BB King's "Nobody loves me but my Mama, and she may be jivin' too" is tickling my fancy.

  7. I love music. Anything BUT Gospel and most Jazz and Bluegrass. My very favs are Blues, but I like just about everything else. What I listen to pretty much depends on my mood and opportunity. I couldn't begin to name a fav artist OR a fav song.

  8. I'm a Pandora girl too! I was told to get the ap when I first got my iPhone and I just love it! I can listen to whatever is my mood that day, or to overcome a mood I don't want ;*D. Blues, jazz, oldies, motown.... you name it and they have it! I put it on while I'm sewing and usually I dance while I sew.... much better than sitting still and gaining 20 pounds as I sew =^..^=

  9. I like anything from The Beastie Boys, Pantera, Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson, Eartha Kitt, 90's Rock, 80's Rock, 70's Rock, 50's and 60's Rock, The Smashing Pumpkins, Classical Music...Lots of different stuff. I hate pop. Not into Gospel either. I can't stand The Grateful Dead. Hmm. Probably 33/Smashing Pumpkins is my fave followed closely by Muzzle/Smashing Pumpkins.

  11. Yep.....all over the place, too! I love to listen to foreign music, and usually my hubby will make comments, "Can't we listen to something where I know what they're saying!?!" Ha! I pretend I'm learning the language, and I sing right along with them.....but have no clue! Cesaria Evora is fabulous......latin type, and Jose Cura for opera/tenor fall-in-love-with-an-amazing-voice type stuff! And then sometimes, I just have to hear Doris Day! Yeah.....all over the place!

  13. I love most music depending on the mood I'm in. I have 6 Westlife cd's which rotate when I'm in the car and I never tire of listening to them. On the other hand I like Bon Jovi, some of Aerosmith and Michael Bolton, Celine Dion is also a favourite. However Classical music, country or blues is my choice when sewing. Dh has never moved on from the 60's and says they just don't make music anymore it's garbage, so you can guess what we have to listen to when he's around LOL. But then again what a boring world it would be if we all liked the same.

  14. Like most of your readers, I am all over the place, too. Love Pandora! We just set up speakers in my sewing shop so I can listen to Pandora there, too. I listen to classical music most of the time when I work.
I am a little spoiled, I think. My oldest son is a music major well on his way to a professional career. His biggest focus is Jazz. I get to hear so many beautiful piano ballads. That would be my favorite. He plays the ukelele, too. So to that person that mentioned IZ, I get to hear that, too!!

  15. I'm with you, I like a variety...4 years ago I would have said NO WAY to anything country. Then I met this guy who loved EVERYTHING country, and kinda ended up marrying him AND discovering I liked country ;) I'm not big on rap, but I love instrumental music, especially at Christmas time! I think my current favorite artist is Colbie Caillat.

  17. We saw Bobby McFerrin in concert last night. Most people only know "Don't Worry Be Happy" even though he hasn't sung it in concert in 20 years. He is phenomenal and so much fun to see live.

Julia and Pete have us listening to lots of Black Keys lately. Always lots of jazz.

  18. Another eclectic music lover here. Love Frank and Elvis and country and classic rock, jazz, big band, bluegrass. Love Christian music too. Jimmy Buffet never fails to make me happy, but don't ask me to pick a favorite because the list is very long! I heard Roger Miller's 'Chug-a-lug, Chug-a-lug' the other day and I had to pull over on the side of the road because it made me cry. Who cries to Chu-a-lug?! LOL. But it made me think of my Dad. Not the 'chu-a-lug' part, just the Roger Miller part. LOL. We've also had a horrible drought here and we ranch so we realy rely on it. Yesterday it rained and when I turned on the raio in the truck, the first song I heard was, "Rain is a Good Thing" and it made me cry from happiness and thankfulness.

  19. Yes, me too Karen! All over the place, and love it all! Well, except for gangsta rap, like Michelle said. The negative words breed negativity, violence & hatred, and when our youth play this stuff, usually very loudly, it cannot be good for them!! Anyway...got that out of my system! LOL I also do not think I couldpick a favorite!! So many great songs out there! I am a classic rock person for the most part, but am loving a lot of new stuff too. Ahhh, thanks once again for making us think!! This should be Thought-provoking Thursdays!!!!! <3
