Dominoes!!!
Dominoes have a history in our family. My father was born in 1924...a child of the depression. He still tells the story about one Christmas was he was little. The only gift he received was a set of dominoes. They must have meant a lot to him, because he still talks about them 88 years later. You can imagine how many sets we have bought for him over the years!!
Here's my Tool Time version of dominoes...
and a close up too.
You have seen these tiles before in some of my other projects. Click HERE to see those projects.
The 12" x 12" sheets of tile run from $3.00 - 10.00 a sheet. However, this sheet was $1.23 on clearance.
These are glass "like" and come in so many colors.
For dominoes, you will need 28 rectangle tiles. Mix your colors up if you have a multi colored sheet.
You can lightly mark the center of each tile before you apply the dividing line, but as I went along, I just free handed it.
I wanted to use up what I had around the house, so this is fabric paint that had a little dimension to it.
What I really liked about it was the fine point tip.
Here's my take on this project...Just GO FOR IT!!! Don't strive for perfection. There are too many lines and dots to worry about if they're straight, even or spaced equally.
Do all your middle lines first. You can let them dry, but I just went for it!!
This is the set up for all the dots you need for a set of dominoes.
Close up of rows 1 and 2...
Close up of rows 3 and 4.
All the dominoes together.
You can also go on the internet and bring up pictures of sets dominoes to see the exact dots you need. You can also print the rules for different types of domino games.
This is a box I purchased in the candy making section of the craft store. It was left over from another project, but it fits the set of dominoes perfectly.
Don't forget to add your printed sheet of rules before you wrap it up!
Add a bow and you are all set for a Father's Day gift...or any holiday for that matter.
This is another smaller box I had. Cute little package.
All tied up and ready to give.
See the "perfect" imperfection in there? I think little mistakes and smudges add to the charm of a homemade gift...especially with game pieces.
If you buy the tiles on clearance or at least a great price, you can make so many sets of Dominoes very inexpensively. You will get 2 sets of Dominoes per sheet of tile. (66 tiles per sheet) You need 28 per game.
These would be great for...
- Father's Day
- Grandparent's Day
- birthdays
- party favors
- game night at home
- class room games to learn numbers and matching
Happy Tuesday,
~Karen~
Ps...this post was scheduled to go out at 12:00 am, now it's 6:00 am and I'm having to do it myself. Is anyone else having a problem with scheduling a post with the new dashboard??
I'm also having a terrible time with Blogger. You're not alone and LOVE this project of yours!
ReplyDeleteWonderful project.. just LOVE it. Going to search for some tiles... Thanks x
ReplyDeleteScheduled something last Sunday and it didn't work, either. Cute project! Haven't played Dominoes in years ..... maybe time to try again!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great project. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWould be great to do colors or numerals for small children. Great idea! Wonder if mod-podge would work on them? could put animals on them. Can you tell I have young grand kids?
ReplyDeleteVery cute, Karen! I wonder though... if you use glass tiles, can you see the markings when they're turned face down? That would make it pretty easy to cheat!
ReplyDeleteI'm always smiling when I read your blog Karen. You have some of the best ideas and are so generous in your sharing. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Kelly
Great idea!
ReplyDeleteAs for Blogger, try setting posting time for 12:01 am, technically the first minute (12:00) belongs to the previous chunk. 12:00am is the day before, not the morning after. It may think you wanted it posted at midnight tonight instead of midnight this morning.
Love this idea! My son would love it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as posting...did you hit publish? You set the time and then it publish and it will publish at the time you set. Hope that helps!
Such a clever idea. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful ideas Karen, thankyou for sharing.
