Vacations...some people call them holidays. Whatever the name, we love and need them!
We have always been a Disney family...love it there. To do it up first class would be wonderful.
However, we've always wanted to drive across the country and visit every state. Drive in a big comfy RV, stay in the best hotels, eat yummy food and explore the country!
Ahhh...a girl can dream, right?
If you didn't have to worry about money or time, where would you go on your "Dream Vacation"?

I don't know that I have one dream vacation, but I do have several things I would like to do such as ride on the Maid of the Mist at Niagra Falls and go up into the torch at the Statue of Liberty
ReplyDeleteWho am I taking with me? If it is my hubby it will have to be short and not involve the beach. He hates to travel. I, on the other hand, want to see it all.
ReplyDeleteRight now I have a craving for a beach but...I want to go out west and see the Grand Canyon, Yellow Stone in the summer (I have been in the winter), The PNW, the redwoods in CA, etc... I just need to give my husband some Xanax!
I'm with Mary! If the hubs is invited, no beach and not too long! And there'd have to be gambling or computers of some sort!
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a historical tour of the East coast, see the Smithsonian and other sites in DC, Hawaii is always good, but mostly, my kids are 11 and 8 and we live in Nor cal, and they've never been to Disneyland - so that's the first priority!
we want to get a rail passes, take the Empire Builder out to Washington, the Sunset Express down the coast, and hit as many states as we can in 45 days on the train!

ReplyDeleteIf I didn't have to worry about money or time, it would be a world cruise. All the way. I love cruising, and would love to see places outside the Caribbean, and would love for someone else to be doing the cooking and the dishes while I went sightseeing and working out and taking long afternoon naps.
ReplyDeleteAlas, unless we win the lottery, that will never happen. This year, I'm looking forward to a week at the beach, in a little beachy rental right on the sand, during the off season. I can feel the sand between my toes in my head...
I hear there are some wonderful fabric shops to explore in Japan! Venice and Norway are on my list too...
ReplyDeleteMy dram vacay would be to go to punta arenas at the bottom of chile, and then take an Antarctic cruise down through Antarctica and back up again. It's the most expensive cruise one can take! That one is a lottery win dream!
ReplyDeleteWhat a privileged woman I am, having a hubby who thinks the same way I do and have our dream-vacations every other year AND having 4 weeks to do it in. To the USA. We want to see as much as we can of every single state. In another 165 days (24 sept we leave the Netherlands)we'll go for the third time!! We will be visiting Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. If you want to follow our trip over there, you can visit my blog. I will be posting every day, with lots of pictures offcourse.

On my, there are a number of places I'd like to go. Scotland, Belgium, Egypt, Holland, Italy, Jerusalem, but I think I'd start with Bali. Oh we can dream......

ReplyDeleteHi! My bucket list, and Daytime Dreams, include Hawaii, Greece, the island with the blue buildings and white domed roof tops, and to see the Eiffle Tower in person. At this point in my life, I'd be overwhelmed to be in Paris, but to see the Eiffle Tower would be a biggy for me!

ReplyDeleteA cruise around the world! So many things to see, and you get to sleep in the same bed every night. They make your food for you, and clean up after you. We love cruises! We just got back from our spring vacation last week - our longest cruise yet - 10 days in the Caribbean. It was very relaxing :)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely take an around the world trip. When my kids and I were in Maui a few years ago we met a young Scottish mother and her daughter (I believe the woman was a journalist) who were almost finished with their around-the-world tour. They were going to be gone 6 months. They still had the US to go, and had started in Moscow. Can you imagine??

ReplyDeleteMy dream vacation would be traveling by RV to all of the states. I don't have any desire to fly anywhere, but love camping. It's not elaborate, but it's us! And the best part... it's completely doable in our lifetime! I turn 30 this year, and have plenty of time to enjoy the ride!
ReplyDeleteMy parents took me to Disney in Florida when I was 6 and 7 years old. Both times we drove down from PA with a camper attached to the truck. We rode the ferry across to Disney. It was wonderful! I bet they saved some money by camping. It's just what we always did when I was growing up and I hope to be able to do that with our kiddos also.
If money and time wasn't an option, I would love to visit countries that are centuries old. The USA is awesome, but we're only a few centuries old. I would love to learn their customs and history. I would love to go to England, France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Spain, Israel, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, China, Japan, Australia, etc... But if I had to choose one, I would love to visit the UK first.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently on a mission to visit every US Baseball stadium. My husband is a huge baseball fan. And since he's a hard person to buy for and his birthday (May 17) is close to father's day, we are trying to go to one new stadium every year or so for his birthday/Father's Day. This year we are going to NYC and will see a Yankee's game (the Met's are away while we will be there). So far we've been to Tampa Bay, Baltimore Oriels, Huston Astros & Boston Red Sox together. We had the Marlins in there, but now they have a new stadium. My husband has been to the Atlanta Braves but I haven't. And I've been to the old Yankee stadium, but my husband never got to go. I think the next trip will be either Chicago or San Francisco.
Mary & Jen- We need to leave the husbands at home and go! My husband doesn't want to go anywhere that doesn't involve freshwater fishing. He HATES the beach. I want to basically go everywhere in the world a woman can go safely. I have no desire to fear for my safety in countries where women are considered property or "less than".

ReplyDeleteExactly what you wrote, a comfy motor home for me and my puppies to tour the country, visit quilt shops, goto the big quilt shows like Sisters and Padukah, and Houston. I would have to take a sewing machine along so I can sew on the road.
ReplyDeleteYes I live in Orlando but I haven't been to Disney since 2002, I would love to go again, and even Cedar Point. I have lost 150 pounds and will now fit on those roller coasters I could not ride 15 years ago. I want to ride everyone several times. I just rode my first one last month when my brother and his GF took me to SeaWorld and I rode Mantis. WHAT A BLAST!!
I am so indecisive; I can't make up my mind! I love Disneyland, and traveling to all 50 states sounds great, too. Basically, traveling anywhere there is beauty to see, history to learn, or cultures to experience sounds ideal. I guess I just want to see it all! :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay Mary, Jen and Laura....where do we meet and when do we leave? My hubby traveled a lot when he worked and I think that is why he doesn't like to travel. I LOVE the beach and would love to travel the USA...especially if it included quilt shop stops along the way!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join you on your road trip! I just want to add a driver to the RV so I don't have to look only at where I'm going but can also look around at the scenery as I pass. I also have northern Italy, France, and Spain on my list. And if I'm in Spain, I can't miss Portugal. And then Australia and surrounds.
ReplyDeletewould love to travel the nation, but I'll pass on the RV. We haul a trailer for summer camping trips and the stress of watching my husband drive sets me over the edge! Give me a car and hotel, if I'm doing this for a long time. :)
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Italy, Spain, Greece, those call to me. I'd love to find a house to rent and do day trips from there. No bus, not part of a mob of Americans in tennis shoes, just eating our way through southern Europe!

ReplyDeleteI've always dreamed of going to Israel and walking where Jesus walked. If I couldn't do that even if I had the money due to the unrest in the region, I'd go to a beach somewhere, maybe in California so we could then take my granddaughters to meet Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, oh and then of course Disney World and stay in Cinderella's castle with the girls! Too bad money holds us all back from vacation dreams.
ReplyDeleteI've been a long time lurker/reader. But I had to comment today! For my American vacation, I would start at the west end of I-40 near Barstow, CA and travel it all the way to the eastern end at Wilmington, North Carolina. I'd be stopping at every antique store and estate sale inbetween! For outside of the US, I'd like to see England, Ireland, Scotland and western Europe and go on all the back roads and quiet little villages and towns like you see on the PBS programs.

We live in Florida, and DO go to Disney all the time... Seriously, at least once a month. (Our grand daughters inspire us) I'd love to go anywhere, cruise, fly, train ! Why do we keep saying what we would like to do someday? Someday is today, let's just go SOMEWHERE !
ReplyDeleteStill on my bucket list of places to see Hawaii and Driving down the west coast from Seattle to San Diego, stopping whenever to see whatever, staying where ever and eating whatever. (Can you tell when I was a kid car trips were very structured??? ;) Oh and make it during summer in a convertible!
ReplyDeleteIf money were not a consideration, we too would enjoy getting in a motor home and drive. Hubby said there would be enough room for my featherweight, a few projects & my hand work. We could come and go when we wanted, see so much.

My family is spread through out the us. Its hard to see them. Would be so fun to drive up and visit.
I totally loved Banff and Lake Louise, Emerald Lake, Yoho Park, Jasper. I would live there if it wouldn't snow and be so cold!

Oh, no question - I'd return to Kenya. I'd go back to Mombasa and stay at one of the lovely hotels on Bamburi beach. Early each day I would take the 10 minute taxi ride to Utange, a traditional African village in the Bush. As money is no object in this dream, I would have shipped out lots of hand operated sewing machines and simple sewing tools (scissors, needles, thread, pins). I'd set up somewhere under some trees and show village women how to recycle clothes and scraps of fabric into bags. I'd set up some kind of stall somewhere in Bamburi and employ some of the women to run it, selling these bags to the tourists. That way they could raise money to feed their families.
ReplyDeleteI'd spend the afternoons resting at the hotel, maybe take boat trips out to the coral reef, or out on one of the traditional catamarans in the early evening (it is much too hot to work in the afternoons). Alternatively I might spend some time at the local schools working with the children there; I would love to work with some of the children who are struggling with their learning, or to do some English conversation activities.
This is a dream, but one which I really hope will happen one day (well, shipping the sewing machines out requires a miracle, but I'm hoping for that too!)
I don't know if you would call it a vacation, but my husband and I have a dream of living in France for a year. That would be our holiday!
ReplyDeleteSeeing something in each state, or lots of somethings, is my idea of a dream vacation. Of course there would be lots of stitching and quilting store visits along the way, a bit of history. There is so much to see here and I have been to several states, but never long eough to really explore. There's that thing called a job that gets in the way!! HA!! Good question, Karen. Comments were interesting to read.
