You can make these envelope pouches for any occasion in any size. You can also use any paper you might have around the house…craft appear, printer paper and even paper from the hardware store!
Here are 2 envelopes I made…I love the natural brown craft paper especially for Father's Day coming up.
They are so easy to make!!
The first envelope is made with brown craft paper. You can buy it any where, but I bought this at the hardware store in the paint section.
It's used to protect the floor along the edge of the wall when painting.
This roll is 9 inches wide by 180 FEET and it's only $2.47!! I comes in so many different widths too…12 inches, 24 inches and 36 inches. You can make so much from one roll and the width of the paper is already cut for you. Just tear off the length that you need and finish off the edges.
These are printer papers that I have. The typical 8.5 x 11 then 8.5 x 14 and 11 x 17.
You can also use scrap booking paper.
Paper punches come in a thousand different styles to finish off the edges of the envelopes.
Just swap out the flat blade for a fluted one.
One tip if you are a quilter too…flip over your quilt ruler when using a fluted blade. That way if you slip and nick the ruler, it's not on the side that you use for a straight edge blade when cutting fabric.
It's a fast, easy and accurate way to cut the edge.
Now take your paper that you've cut to the desired size and fold up the lower half to the depth you need the pocket.
I made mine 6 inches.
Sew both side of the envelope on your machine. You can also glue the edges, but the seam adds a decorative touch.
You can also change the stitch deign on your machine for a pretty pattern down the side of the envelope.
You can use matching thread or a bright contrasting thread to add some color.
Here are both sides sewn together.
Great pouch to fit so many things.
Now for a quick closure.
I used 2 buttons. Just a small dab of hot glue in the center of each button. One button on the top flap and one on the envelope base. Don't glue the whole back of the button, so thread can be wrapped around it.
Tie a length of string around the the top button and knot off.
Now wrap the string around the bottom button and back up to the top in a figure 8 style.
All secure and ready to go.
Great for Father's Day to fill with gift certificates and goodies from the kids.
The kids can even decorate them too.
This is this white computer paper.
Color coordinate the buttons to match a party theme and slip in the handmade invitation.
Perfect for baby and bridal showers or little girl's tea party.
These envelopes can be used for anything and made in any size. Hope this will be helpful and an inexpensive way to make gift packaging.
Thanks for stopping by,
~Karen~
This is such a great idea. I love how you added the decorative borders. If you ran out of buttons, I imagine you could also use decorative brads. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea Karen. So simple and easy to do as you say and they look great. I can see lovely decorative stitches in a variegated thread looking great. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a simple yet great idea! I'm now looking round my room and thinking that I might have to make some from junk mail and old book pages too, perhaps double thickness!
ReplyDeleteSew cute! I use grocery sacks to make something similar. Easy, I'll say!
ReplyDeleteHappy highways,
Kelley~
beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I read your blog I am amazed at your creativity! Thank you for this versatile and affordable project. It can be used in so many applications. You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you! What a clever way to repurpose calendar pages, bags, newspaper ads, etc, etc.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I'll have to try this!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!! It occurred to me while reading your instructions that you might be able to use this method for sending flat items through the mail. You would tape the flap, of course.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! I'd never thought about using craft paper for making envelopes. I have a huge roll of white craft paper, and I could see using a pretty variegated thread on it for some fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are such a nice touch. Hello from Show & Tell Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I was trying to figure out a cute way to package my Zipper coin purses to send when I sell one on Etsy. (A new venture) These would be great. I like the idea of using brads like horsemarkcards said. I would use buttons for gifts but the brads would be great for sales.
