Come on in for a few organizing tips.
The best tip for heavy winter coats is to invest in wooden coat hangers. Big heavy coats keep their shape better on wooden hangers. The flimsy plastic hangers droop and usually break under the weight.
Winter coats can be expensive, so a few extra dollars for the wooden hangers is well worth it.
Below the coats is the best place for all the hats, gloves, mittens and scarves. Easy access near the coats!
I put together one of those wire racks that you can customize to fit your space, but any shelving system or low bookcase will work.
Having a shelf to keep the boxes or containers separated helps when sliding the boxes out. If you have the boxes stacked up on each other, it can be a pain. Sliding an individual box out makes it so much easier for everyone.
Labeling all the boxes is the key organizing.
Separating them and labeling each box helps when you have adult sizes, children sizes and lots of different winter gear to store.
Women's hat all in one box, so you know just where things are.
This makes it really easy for my husband to find just what he needs!

I know it's not winter everywhere in the world, but you can always take these tips and tricks to store any seasonal items in your home. Remember…labeling is the key to a sane house!!

ReplyDeleteOMG ... you mean there are two MORE boxes of scarves??!! Just kidding. Living in snowy, cold winter conditions too, I had several warm scarves as well and we have sure needed them this winter. Your advice for the boxes on individual shelves is a great solution and labelling, especially for MEN, is invaluable..."honey, where's my hat? ... honey, I can't find my gloves ... honey, did you move the car keys????"

ReplyDeleteWe have a coat closet with a hanging rack over the door. Coats we don't use daily are on wooden hangars and daily coats go on the rack at the door. Gloves, hats, scarfs go into a nifty little cabinet I found years ago that has 6 drawers and a door with shelves. Names are labeled on each drawer so everyone knows where to find their stuff. Great organization tips!

ReplyDeleteI love the wire racks and the idea of not stacking boxes right on top of each other. You are so right about that being a pain to pull out, but mostly to put back in!
