Organizing...Ideas For Ikea Plastic Bag Dispenser

I know there aren't Ikea stores in every state, but if there is one near you, it's worth the trip. We don't have one here in Rhode Island, but there is a store an hour away in Connecticut and another an hour and thirty minutes away in Massachusetts.

We've bought things from small to big there…cork trivets to coffee tables. The prices are awesome!! (this is not a paid endorsement either…I just love the store!! My husband, not so much. I think it's because we spent four hours there on our first trip. Scared him away forever. Lol)

One thing I pick up almost every time I go are these plastic bag dispensers. They are only $1.99 each. A little pain in the butt to snap together, but you can use them for so much!!

When you buy them, they are flat and you just have to curved them into shape and snap in the clips on the side.

I use them for plastic bags and lots more too…

I hang one on the wall going down into the basement to hold plastic shopping bags.

One tip…ball up one bag at a time when placing them in the dispenser. That way it's easier when you are pulling one bag out at a time.

My biggest tip is attaching 2 together…with you know what!!

My favorite zip ties.

Place 2 dispenser back to back and attach with 2 zip ties on the top…

and two zip ties on the bottom , through the inside holes where you would hang them on the wall.

When storing taller items in these containers, there is strength when two are attached…"there's safety in numbers". This works great when not hanging them on the wall.

Don't forget to trim the zip ties down.

Now you can store taller items without the bin tipping over.

Great for tall rolls of wrapping paper.

Other ideas for the single version…

Toilet paper holder. This will hold four rolls. Great to attach to the inside of your bathroom vanity door, under the sink or in the closet.

Great in the craft room too, for balls of yarn you have left over from many projects.

More ideas that I haven't tried yet…

  • store old rags in garage
  • maybe stack up spools of ribbon and dispense the end of the ribbon through one of the holes
  • kid's toy balls or smaller balls for sports…baseballs, softballs, tennis balls
  • might be great for a scrap fabric bin…might get wrinkled in there, but you could see the fabric.

If you have any ideas for the plastic bins…let us know!!

Thanks for stopping by,
~Karen~

  1. With the spools of ribbon, I would put them on a dowel, add a bead in between. Yes this would take up a little space but then all the spools wouldn't be turning at once and causing them all to unwrap. Also would have to put a piece of cardboard on the bottom so the dowel wouldn't fall through. Just thinking and wishing the nearest one to us wasn't in Denver. But wait for it wait for it, I coming to Colorado next week, don't tell the Hubby cause he will never notice a little more in the back of that big old Penske truck. Right?

  2. Sadly, we have no IKEA close and because they are about 2 hours away, IKEA will not mail out to us feeling we can make the drive! I could find so many ways to use these!

  3. Quiltingranny get together with some girlfriends and make the trip you can even eat lunch there, as my granddaughter says "they have MEEAatballs with GGRAAAAVVEEee" she doesn't do the chicken fingers. We even buy the frozen meatballs and gravy packets to make for dinner at home.

Karen I started to post the other day, I am soo sorry to hear about your Annie. It's been over ten years since my Chester he was a Golden Retreiver and the worlds best dog, I have 3 pugs but Chester still has a special place in my heart. Annie is running around the rainbow bridge with Chester and they are waiting for us to get there one day in the long ahead future.

Ikea I love Ikea, I can get in so much trouble there, I want to go get another bookcase now that I have more room. I have these plastic bag thingys, I attached a couple to the back of the master closet and have my wrapping paper stashed there, up off the floor so it doesn't get damaged and it is out of the way but easily accessible. I never thought of the TP holder, guess I need to buy another, lol. But scrap fabric holder, hahahaha, I have boxes of scrap fabric, I have started making scrap quilts to use it up,

  6. They publish a catalog every year - it's better than the Sears "wish book" we used to drool over at Christmas time as kids.

  7. I love Ikea too! Funny about your husband. Mine will go, but only for a short time. I recently went with a girlfriend, and we spent hours in there, it was heaven! Love the idea of putting two dispensers together.

  8. The first Ikea I had been to was the one in CT. My mom and I were on vacation there and we drove past it and I practically did a U turn on the interstate to get back to it! Loved it! I have several of these, but the thing I always buy is the holder to go inside a cabinet door. I use those for trash, for holding TP in the bathroom, for holding dish towels in the kitchen. They are wonderful!

  9. Funny to see this post today as heading there already in a couple of hours! Love the TP holder idea and I'm sure there are others so I'll have to pick up a few just to have them around! Thanks for the blog! Always awesome to see your great ideas!

  10. We drive from NY to SC to visit family each year - and have timed it so lunch at the IKEA in Charlotte is part of our regular itinerary!!! We are limited to the small and medium sized items -but that doesn't seem to slow us down much. I also love their fabrics - I use them for backings, totes, and other fun projects that are not necessarily home decor related.

  13. I feel so deprived! I have never, ever in all my many days been to an Ikea. Not even sure where there is one. Probably it's as the old fella said, 'You can't get there from here." Maybe I should put it on my bucket list. Those little bag holders look very useful for a lot of things.

  16. They're sold on the IKEA website: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80010222/

$15 shipping is a lot for a $1.99 item, but it's less than driving to IKEA.
