Thrift Store Finds...

Wow, I have been seriously missing in action since Tuesday. I usually post every day, but this week has been crazy! I've been busy with work, went up to Kelsie's university for a day to help decorate her apartment and completely gutted most of our upstairs at the house with a serious deep clean...really getting rid of a lot of "stuff".

You know the "stuff" you we collect...My husband's office chock full of old books, papers, files etc. Courtney's room with things she's collected over the years. After she graduated from college in May, she really wanted to weed things out. And then there is our master bedroom closet. Yikes, I'm still dealing with it this morning, but really wanted to do a post so you didn't think I fell off the face of the earth! Cleaning out your closet is so satisfying. Your life feels lighter and all the clothes are donated. It's a win-win.

Since I have no other project to share right now, I wanted to show you a few thrift store finds I've bought over the last few weeks. Thrift store are also a win-win. Most that I shop at are for a certain charity.

Here are a few things I've found over time...

The lamp was only $12.00...lampshade included.

Come on in and see a few more. Things you see at yard sales, flea market and thrifts store will help decorate little corners of your house too!

The lamp is perfect for my tool workbench in my sewing room. All my tools are here, my paints and the frame (thrift too) holds all my screws, nails and little doo dads.

The lamp is an antique wood planer. The lamp shade is burlap and a awesome shape...it's oval.

thrift store finds

Someone retrofitted the wood planer with a light kit. Drilled a hole in the center and add the metal pole for the cord.

thrift store finds

My grandfather was a carpenter and I remember seeing some of these in his work shop when I was very little, so it's extra special.

thrift store finds

Found this old watering can a long time ago and it's great for a plant.

This whole corner is one big thrift except for the 2 candles, which I am still burning over...no pun intended. I am a thrifter through and through, so when I had to pay $6.00 each for those candles (at Walmart too) and wanted to die. I needed them for a little fall decorating, so I bit the bullet.

The black cabinet was the best find...$30.00

thrift store finds

All the items on top cost less then $10.00 total. The 2 candles cost more than all of it. Ok, I'm getting madder about the cost of candle again.

thrift store finds

Old cake stand to hold a pumpkin.

thrift store finds

Two miss matched candle sticks holding "those" candles that I will never burn.

thrift store finds

an old sterling apple candy dish...this one is so cute in person.

thrift store finds

A metal bowl that I bought a while ago, but I change out what's in there seasonally.

Then there is this little beauty. I bought this a few months ago, but it needs a little love. Just a few scratches, but only $35 for an old sewing machine cabinet. I've already taken out the machine and will be upscaling this to a wine bar and ice bucket.

More to come on that!!!

Sorry I've been away for a few days...just finishing up some fall cleaning and I'll be back in action!

have  a great weekend,
~Karen~

  1. I just love that lamp! I love how things are being repurposed into such wonderful items. Love all of your great buys! I'm with you.... a good find in a thrift store is so much fun. I think many people are surprised at the treasures that can be found when your eyes are open and you can see the wonderful potential. Thanks for sharing today! (Don't let the candles get under your skin... they are lovely and the color is perfect!)

  4. I love to shop at thrift shops, too.

Just an idea about "those" candles. Since they are only for display, what about wrapping them with colored paper for each season to get a different look?

  6. I love your black cabinet with the autumn display. Now I feel guilty though, because I need to get rid of a few closets full of stuff. Actually I would like suggestions about good options for about 6 dozen Beanie Babies in new condition - who would want them???? I'll watch for your next ask the world a question post for that one!

  8. I'm so excited to see what you do with the sewing cabinet. I have one just like it but it houses my husband's grandmothers sewing machine. I had the sewing machine serviced and it works like a charm!

  9. Yes, I am with Brenda, what did you do with the sewing machine? Did you just take it out while you are re-doing the cabinet? Can't wait to see the cabinet finished. I

    1. Hi..The machine didn't work, but I removed it and donated it back to the thrift store so they can sell it for parts. Once you remove a machine from a console like this, it can't be used as a table top machine...it didn't have a flat bottom. It has to be mounted in the desk cabinet to stay balanced.
I hope it will be a great find for someone to fix their machine.
