Fabric Hoops Wall Decor...

Hi everyone! Today, I want to share a project with you that I saw on Pinterest. It was from the site Purl Bee. It uses wooden embroidery hoops for wall decor. When I first saw the idea, I already had some older hoops that I had been collecting and some from my mom, but the hunt was on. Every time I saw hoops in yard sales, thrift store or consignment shops I bought them!! They were inexpensive too...50 cents to $3.00 and some were $5.00 for a bag of them.

Here's the wall in my sewing room with all the hoops made with fabric I already had!!

You can make these too. They are very easy and fast to make up. Let me show you the quick steps...

First, you need to collect the hoops in many different sizes.

If you're new to using embroidery hoops...take your hoop

Loosen the screw at the top and separate the 2 parts.

Place the ring, without the screw, down first.

Then cover with your fabric.

Place the hoop with the screw over the fabric and squeeze onto lower ring.

Tighten the screw.

Pull fabric evenly all the way around until it's tight. You may have to tighten the screw a little more.

Trim fabric all the way around the hoop.

Glue the raw edges to the back of the hoop. I used a hot glue gun (low temp glue is best for your fingers)

All done!!

Arrange them on the wall with different sizes mixed all over and hang with a small tack nail. Uses different fabrics too...mix up styles and prints.

The design wall in my sewing room has other things on it too...chalkboard for reminder notes! Click HERE for that project.

Wire baskets to hold different types of string. Click HERE for that project.

Fabric covered cork boards for notes and pictures...click HERE to see a post where I show how to cover them.

The boxes on the floor are old drawers from our kitchen renovation...they hold my Tool Time Tuesday projects "to be".

This is a pieces of peg board I framed to hang all my quilting rulers. I never did a post on it, but it will be similar to the framing of the chalkboard.

Just find a great frame and have the peg board cut to size. Hardware stores will cut it for free.

I hung all the hoops in the higher section of the wall, because I'm a shorty and I wouldn't hang a peg board or cork board that high.

They really add dimension and design to an unused section of that wall!

I hope you can use some of the ideas from this post!! Have fun with your hoops too. Great for any room in the house.

Have a great day,
~Karen~

  6. I hung fabric filled hoops in my studio last year when I did some redecorating. I think they just add a great "pop" of fun to the wall. I do envy all your wall space. My studio is on the third floor in a finished attic space. I have lots of sloping walls which do not work well for hanging anything! I do have some space near my cutting table (old baby changing station with a big hunk of MDV on top) and am going to try to replicate your framed pegboard. Great idea!

  7. Hoops are also great for displaying old doilies. Just baste the doily to a piece of fabric and then place in hoop.

  12. We used to do painted designs on fabric and put them in hoops, seems like it is back again.
Great idea though for smaller quilted pieces are art.

  15. I saw a clock made from a hoop and fabric. They used buttons for the hours. A big clock would be cute surrounded by these fabric hoops.

    1. Hi...there wasn't an email address for me to respond to you directly, but the boxes are cardboard water bottle boxes I covered with fabric and used pipe straps for the handles!!
