Tool Time Tuesday...Ceiling Tile Memo Board

Hi everyone! Happy Tool Time. If you missed last week's memo board system using wood, peg board, cork etc, you can click HERE to see that.

If you want to make an even easier memo board, then today is your day!!

See it in behind my computer? Took 3 minutes!!

ceiling tile memo board

This is what it's made from...a ceiling tile. It's 2 feet by 2 feet in size.

Ceiling tiles have a great feature where tacks can be pushed in easily!

The one I purchased is an Armstrong ceiling tile ( I have no affiliation with them)

Here is a quote from their site on what the ceiling tiles are made from...

What are Armstrong ceilings made of?
Armstrong mineral board ceilings are made of mineral fiber and can include up to 82% recycled content. Armstrong also offers high performance engineered resin, rigid PVC, and durable laminate plank ceilings made from wood fiber byproducts.

You can purchase one or a bunch!! $3.87 each...cheap, cheap

You can paint them too.

I started to paint within the lines to be detailed with this design, but wow did it look like a 2 year old painted it. Lol

So I painted the whole thing...quick and easy!

I added a ribbon to hang it, but you can just add picture hooks on the back if you don't want the ribbon.

Great for design inspiration, family organizing (one board for each family member), appointments, photos etc

The next thing I tried was to cover it with burlap...you can use any fabric though.

I used a staple gun...

Took 3 minutes to do this!!

I think I needed to iron this more lol

but little notes and pictures covered the wrinkles anyway.

I just placed it behind the computer for quick reference, but I think I need more ceiling tiles though, to make another collage type memo board system.

More pictures to come when I put the wall together!!

I know where you're going now...to the hardware store, right??

Have a great day,
~Karen~

  2. I really really really want something like this so I can put inspiration pictures and stuff on it, but then I realize that printing out everything that I would want on it would cost too much. I want it where I will see it every day though, instead of pinterest which I see only if I go on it!

  6. It's funny you should be using a ceiling tile for your project today, as we just used one for my son's science project recently too! They are lightweight but sturdy, and so cheap that if they happen not to come home again, it's not like I've lost my very favorite piece of cut wood. We just covered ours with white paper and he drew the planet orbits on it and used some funky swirly orange/yellow/blue paper for the sun and then glued on his clay planets. It's easy to carry because it's only 2 feet square and not very heavy.

I love your burlap covered memo board...so much potential with that idea!

  7. I have used 4 tiles that nest together (tongue and groove style) in my sewing room for several years. Yes, they are wonderful - inexpensive, lightweight, easy to work with. Thank you for posting this Karen. Your TTT ideas are now making me "think outside the box" when I have organizational needs.
