Monster Icicles...and The Swap Meets is Extended

I'm not complaining, we do live in New England, but we've had one snow storm after another and there is more this week. The snow we have piled up will be here in July! The other night my husband and I happened to look out the windows of my sewing room to find these.

You can't tell by this picture, but the top of the icicle is about 5 inches in diameter.

and look how long it is!!! 48 inches and growing. My husband broke them all off the gutter before the whole thing collapsed.

Hope you're staying warm where you are in the world...snow or not!

I've extended the Swap Meet Weekend until this Friday, so you can add your item that you want to trade all week. This is the first weekend for this, so we'll see how things go!

Take care,

  1. Oh my goodness... those are some HUGE icicles! I don't envy you all the "fun with snow/ice" you're having...

  2. Yikes, wouldn't want to be under one of those if it fell down from a second storey!

  3. Well you're better than me because I am complaining. It's my first New England winter so I think it's allowed. ;) I looked today and we have a couple of icicles that go all the way to the ground. So crazy! I seriously wanted to cry when my husband told me that there's another big one coming in a couple of days.

At least it'll be a good excuse to stay inside and sew right? I need to go make sure I'm fully stocked in thread.

  4. I saw some on a barn, that were hanging to the ground, must have been at least 3 feet long. I would hate to be under those, when they fall.

  5. Oh my! Two of my daughters live in NE and are buried under the snow. They don't mind it, though, and it is beautiful! Those icicles look dangerous! I wish we would get another good snow here in E TN.

  6. I guess you don't want to hear that it was nearly 70 degrees here today. I know someone in NJ whose gutter came down because of a HUGE icicle. Beautiful though they are, I'm not missing the ice! :-)

  9. Wow! That is one very large icicle! We've been on vacation and are currently headed toward home. We are trying to outrut the next snowstorm which is calling for 4 inches Monday and an additional 12 on Tuesday. I've decided if I'm going to get snowed in I may as well be at home so I can sew!

  10. That is exactly why we left Massachusetts and moved to southern Tennessee! I miss alot of things about New England, but the weather isn't one of them. Great pictures. Stay safe.

  13. Isn't it horrible? I can't remember the last time we had icicles or snowbanks this big. Where are we going to put more snow?

  14. I live in New England as well, my icicles aren't quite as long, b/c my son keeps breaking them, I did tell him there was one he couldn't break, we are trying to connect the gutter to the ground, and see how long it takes LOL

  16. I live in California, and I won't share with you the weather we are having here. Those icicles are really something else! Since I don't live in the snow, I find them quite fascinating. It must really be cold!!!

  18. WOW!!! Karen I have never seen that big of an icicle, heck we get excited if we see one that is 2" long.LOL. It is 72 degrees right
now but its suppose to be in the 40's in a
    day or two.
About your swap meet.....DON'T EVER UNESTIMATE
THE POWER OF A WOMAN....that is the saying my
sis and I had when we owned Volkswagens. When
we would shop for fabric we would have the back
seat covered and the kids sat on all of it. We
love our fabric...o.k. and kids. That is a wonderful idea you have about the swap meet. It
will be interesting to see how it turns out.
    Good luck with it.

  20. Those icicles are incredibly beautiful!!! You must have felt a bit sorry to take them off because of their beauty. But I can see why they had to go!
